I'd expect it to be headline news if it happened.

Was a rather stupid thing to say if you ask me. Putin now knows what he needs to do otherwise his options will be limited once Ukraine joins NATO.
Could mean him deploying Nukes to end the war quickly and totally destroy Ukraine. In such circumstances I really dont think the West or USA is going to retaliate with their own Nukes.
Stolenburger should have kept his mouth shut.
I'm pretty sure the west would step in, possibly with conventional strikes.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 11:00 pmWas a rather stupid thing to say if you ask me. Putin now knows what he needs to do otherwise his options will be limited once Ukraine joins NATO.

They are already part of NATO. The only thing missing is NATO mobiising with boots on the ground. Putin knows it. Everyone knows it. Putin now has a dilemma of his own making. An unwinnable war against an obstinate opponent supplied by NATO or a climbdown. Or blow everyone up, of course.Derek27 wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 12:06 amI'm pretty sure the west would step in, possibly with conventional strikes.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Apr 21, 2023 11:00 pmWas a rather stupid thing to say if you ask me. His nuclear rhetoric has evaporated. I wouldn't be surprised if in his latest nuclear missile test he fired off 20 missiles and only 2 worked!greenmark wrote: ↑Sat Apr 22, 2023 1:38 pmThey are already part of NATO. Ukraine is not currently part of NATO. If they were then there would be US/UK plus other boots, tanks and fighter jets on the ground and in the Sky. ie. WW3.
Putin’s options are very fast running out. I suspect he will have no option but deploy Nukes with the argument that if Ukraine formerly joins NATO then western Nukes will be right on his door step, even though they are to some degree anyway as US has strategic bombers carrying nukes at the German airbase.
Putin has to do something to end it quickly otherwise he could find home self falling out of a hospital window.
Ukraine has now received an enormous amount of kit and newly trained replacement troops with the best personnel kit available in the world.
Since February 2022 the west has been training Ukraine how to fly and use Apache Helicopters and Western fighter jets. This was done in Germany and Poland. How it wasn’t leaked beforehand is rather baffling.
Ukraine is about to launch a massive counter offensive with literally everything they have.
Russian casualties will probably treble in the coming days, weeks and months.
All this strongly leads me to believe that Putin is/will do something extreme.
Basically he got no choice. What happens to international markets if he does is anyone’s guess but I suspect prices and inflation will further rocket, assuming we not all dead.

It takes 26 weeks. 60 flying hours and 70 simulator hours. Obviously not everyone passes as you are constantly accessed by very stringent flying examiners. You have to have some previous experience of flying helicopters to start with. Ukraine already had a number of pilots with previous experience albeit with different kit. But they already knew basic helicopter techniques and flying time.
Around 80 Ukraine pilots have been trained/passed. Not sure how many Ukraine will be given as they not exactly cheap. But even if they get 40 or so that will give them a big edge on the battlefields.
Finland just order another 96 so there is some speculation that they are giving Ukraine a few along with US, UK, Germany and Poland.
I imagine all this is going to really piss Putin off even further.
That's nothing. I've saved the Earth from alien attacks hundreds of times.

That's the 1st thing I thought, perfect excuse to deploy tactical nuclear weapons then 2nd how has a drone travelled that far and got anywhere near the Kremlin. Whilst Putin's propaganda may work at home the rest of the world isn't that daft.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Wed May 03, 2023 2:06 pmhttps://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-65471904

Russia is completely on the back foot and they know a big Ukrainian offensive is coming backed up by superior western weaponry, there nearly at the point where they can lie no more to the Russian people so need a way out. Not sure a staged drone attack is it.
The Ukraine's are fighting for their country, freedom, and there lives the Russians don't have a clue what there fighting for. When this offensive comes I hope the Ukrainians annihilate them.
