Emergency alarm didn't go off. Putin will be taking note!
Turn emergency alerts back on?

Maybe you've been singled out as someone that doesn't need saving. Sorry. Couldn't resist. :-)

you would have thought they would have made it an English accent or possibly one the other accents from the other countries that make up the uk, but an american accent!

I know. As an ex-IT person I know it's so easy to tailor your presentation to your audience. Doesn't inspire confidence.
Next we'll revert to "duck and cover" and being told to hide under the stairs.

I don't think the accent will matter when it's warning us to lockdown from a deadly new variant. Better safe than sorry like the last time when we didn't lock down quick enough and millions died that could have been saved

Had breakfast in a cafe and overhead a mother giving her 16-year-old son a 10-minute talk about work ethics, doing the best job you can, etc. When they left I noticed he left all his beans. She didn't give him a talk about eating his beans! And why order beans if you don't want them?

My parents would have said you'll never make the army if you don't eat your beans!

You're one of the lucky ones, I'd rather not know I've got 10mins till the bombs drop. The idea it's about floods etc is bollx when they're transmitting it in all areas regardless of the risks.

And when my phone went off my first thought was for the vulnerable who may have had a hidden phone and an abusive partner who was alerted to it.

They can easily switch it off. As you'd expect from an inept government, there was a lot of hype and rumours that it can't be switched off, I think I heard that even if you switch your phone off, remove the battery, run a steamroller over it and bury it under ten feet of earth it will still be loud enough to alert you, but there was no real information including going into settings to either switch it off or ensure it's switched on.

The default should have been off with an opt in. That would have been the responsible choice and respectful of our freedom of choice. I fundamentally disagree with any government taking control of my personal devices. It can be switched off but that assumes everyone is equally confident about changing settings which many, especially the elderly, aren't.

What really pisses me off (in addition to autocorrect changing pisses to passes) is that when you sign into Google on an Android or Edge on a PC, it automatically starts syncing your data before you can switch it off!

And you learned that from the "inept Government" or some stupid LL trying to make political capital from such?

Frankly, I don't see the problem of being warned there may be a threat to life on the way and I thank any Government, inept or otherwise, for the warning.
