Football could go on forever and you'll never see a defense as good as AC Milan's in the late 80's early 90's, Franco Baresi is the best sweeper/central defender I've ever seen.
Indeed so. Epitomised "They shall not pass". But he wasn't crude for the vast majority of the time, he read the game so well, but if it came down to a cynical tackle he was utterly ruthless,Michael5482 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 6:07 pmFootball could go on forever and you'll never see a defense as good as AC Milan's in the late 80's early 90's, Franco Baresi is the best sweeper/central defender I've ever seen.
I thought Baresi was brilliant.

The rest of the team wasn't bad either with Ricjard, Van Basten and Gullitgreenmark wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 6:57 pmIndeed so. Epitomised "They shall not pass". Decent game for a 0-0 Brighton slighlty unlucky but you've got to take your chances in the big games. The standard of penalty taking seems to be getting better and better, center backs stroking them in like the Brazilian Ronaldo

Didn't that lot also overlap with George Weah? He was like a striker/bulldozer.Michael5482 wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 7:23 pmThe rest of the team wasn't bad either with Ricjard, Van Basten and Gullitgreenmark wrote: ↑Sun Apr 23, 2023 6:57 pmIndeed so. Spurs under Levy have the best stadium in the EPL and have flirted wirh the very top standards. So Levy deserves some credit. But it's looking a bit bonkers when you've been through some of the best managers around and are now managerless for the run-in for the top 4.

Just watch the MOTD Newcastle game ... pissed myself laughing!!!

I didn't laugh. I know a couple of Spurs and they felt after the arrival of Kane and Son and Poch etc it looked like a return to glory for them. But it's all gone a bit wonky for sure.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Mon Apr 24, 2023 9:14 pmJust watch the MOTD Newcastle game ... pissed myself laughing!!!![]()

But it all went a bit wonky for Arsenal and though Arteta has rejuvenated them, they may still fluff it.
Then there's Chelsea, Liverpool, Man Utd.
What's remarkable is the money these teams have but still manage to underperform.
The abiding standard is Man City. Vast wealth and a talented obsessive manager. That seems to be the formula that works.
And that leaves Howe a bit exposed. He strikes me as dedicated, but a nice guy. That may not be enough.
