I was just two aisles away from a pint of milk. I thought I'd go down one aisle, back up the other and grab a pint of milk - forgot!
Went to my local greengrocer, only sells four pints of milk, cash machine not working and no card sales under £5. If I purchased a pack of cigarettes as well that's like paying a £2 fine for being too lazy to walk to the supermarket. I'll have to go back to the supermarket, hardly surprising so many of these corner shops are going out of business!

100%...and maybe reduce the cost to us too. I think we both agree that however it's run and whoever owns it, it should be for the benefit of our grandchildren not to boost returns on our pension funds or for speculators.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:39 pmInfrastructure should be government owned and run efficiently but for no profit other than to create funds for future investment in the infrastructure.

I don't think they're going out of business because they're greedy, Tescos can buy a billion fags at time and your guy at the shop is probably buying cartons.
Support your local shops rather than Tescos or there won't be any left, the petrol staion shop will probably be a thing of the past soon too when everyone is refuling at home on the leccy.
Careful firlandsfarm , you are starting to sound Communist !firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 2:39 pmInfrastructure should be government owned and run efficiently but for no profit other than to create funds for future investment in the infrastructure.
How can you buy anything when the minimum card payment is £5 and the cash machine doesn't work?ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:33 pmI don't think they're going out of business because they're greedy, Tescos can buy a billion fags at time and your guy at the shop is probably buying cartons.

Ah but that's the sting in the tail Shaun ... great in theory but doesn't work in practice. The businesses you quoted were not run efficiently, they were run for the advantage of the employees at the expense of the supplied!ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Apr 27, 2023 3:11 pm100%...and maybe reduce the cost to us too. We are seeing this now ... the public service unions are flexing their muscles, not for the good of the public but for the good of their members and sod other workers in a weaker position than them. Sometimes they flex them too much, example British Leyland and Red Robbo who killed the goose that paid the workers wages. And what about the guys that stir up the trouble ... did Arthur Scargill suffer after the miners strikes? Not really, he is now worth millions (Google: "Arthur Scargill net worth").
In my previous career as a financial adviser I was invited by some unions to provide financial advice to their members. What stood out the most to me was I could not distinguish the difference between a Union Council meeting and a board meeting of a FTSE100 company. The Union Council's attitude towards it's membership current and hoped for was no different to the FTSE100 Directors towards their customers! To the Union Council being a union was their business and claiming to fight for their members was their product.
Nah, never, Communism does not work. I'm just quoting the theory but it never crosses into practice. How many communist states are still communist? The problem with communism is it goes against man's (and woman's) natural instincts. People want to better themselves and if it comes to a choice between bettering themselves or bettering their neighbour, 'themselves' wins every time! Farming was a big problem. Farmers in non communist countries have to work their fields and work themselves hard to make enough to provide for their family but in a communist state they don't have to because the state will provide for the family. There is no incentive.

It was fake but I imagine the actors on there got paid very little and their appearance on the show would come back to haunt them, would we give such an obituary to Jeremy Kyle?
Was it fake? Were they actors? I thought they were people wth genuine issues and relationships, but they did hype everything for effect.
I only stumbled across the show a few times, but it quickly became clear to me that it was a coalition of Springer (and network) spotting an opportunity to exploit the public's "car crash" curiosity, and the willingness of the particpants to play along. So I guess that does amount to fake.
Pretty awful viewing IMO. Bizarre that it was/is so popular.
Had a look and Jerry apparently said it was '98% real', if that's true I can't believe it, it seemed less real than WWEgreenmark wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 1:10 pmWas it fake? Were they actors? I thought they were people wth genuine issues and relationships, but they did hype everything for effect.

I know someone very experienced in counselling and her assessment of this genre is that they must have a great deal of support behind the scenes. To expose people with relationship issues without that support would be totally unethical.Naffman wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 2:36 pmHad a look and Jerry apparently said it was '98% real', if that's true I can't believe it, it seemed less real than WWEgreenmark wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 1:10 pmWas it fake? I agree, looking at the harm Jeremy Kyle caused I would imagine Springer's show caused 10x more problems.greenmark wrote: ↑Fri Apr 28, 2023 4:21 pmI know someone very experienced in counselling and her assessment of this genre is that they must have a great deal of support behind the scenes.
