Hopefully this is the correct sub-forum for this post.

I am considering using a VPS setup for my BA Pro activities.
I am hoping someone can guide me with some thoughts on the following.

I live in Australia, and log into Betfair Australia.(which is not owned by Betfair as far as I understand it)

I do not trade horseracing, nor do I go inplay so speed of my connection to Betfair is not crucial.

But I do want to have trades in the system and accessible to Guardian 24/7.

option 1 - appears to be purchasing the BA VPS system, and I am perfectly happy to do that.
But my questions would be, would Betfair be upset with me for logging into Betfair Australia from outside Australia? Yes, I could ask them. :-)
Would the distance from Australia to the BA VPS in London be an issue? I don't see how given we can all chat and interact these days instantly with people on the other side of the world but I am not an expert in this field.

option 2 - is purchasing another companies VPS, also in London, and the above questions would be the same I assume.

option 3 - would be purchasing VPS that is based in Australia which would mean I wouldnt be upsetting Betfair as my login IP should still be Australian. Are there any possible downsides to doing this?

Are there any forum readers who live outside Europe, and hopefully in Australia, who do this and which options have you chosen.
How does it work for you? Any suggestions?

I read somewhere that the version of BA used on a non BA server is different than the version you would use on a BA VPS, are there any "extras" one receives or is it just a technical difference?

Thanks in advance

We have quite a lot of Australian customers using our VPS to run Bet Angel via a UK server. So you will have no problem with Betfair.

Option 1 is fine. You will always have a little latency between you and the server but that should be small. If you are using any automated elements, the most important thing is that you are based in the UK where you will have very little latency between your instance of Bet Angel and Betfair. That's the key.

Option 3 doesn't make sense as the Betfair servers are based over here, so you need to be close to those. If you have an Aussie server then you have latency to that server and from that server to the UK. So that's not an option.

When Betfair had their servers in Tasmania I would run some in that territory to be close to them, so you should do the same in the UK.

The Bet Angel VPS is managed and modified by Bet Angel. We have been using them since early 2000's, so have learnt a few things about running Windows servers and have optimised the server edition to take advantage of the faster and more tolerant connection available via the data centre. So we modify each server specifically for the server edition.

Most generic VPS's are barebones without modification and expect the users to make any changes and be familiar with Windows server OS. When doing a comparison bear in mind most VPS's are supplied unmanaged, unmodified and often exclude the windows license and sales tax.

Hope that's helpful.

Are you able to publish the performance comparison stats?
If not then what metrics did you consider; uptime, dropped packets, ping?
