Just totted up the numbers for Royal Ascot. Today was -21% on last year, but... the favourites were a lot shorter last year so that's had an impact. Just a question of how much. Betdaq fell a similar number. -18% on the week so far.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Wed Jun 21, 2023 6:28 pmNice closing race for the day.![]()

Recent inflation will really distort figures you would think?
Day 2 business was much quieter in our area, taking maybe £9k, thou managed to keep £3500 of it.
Bookie next us who won £30k day 1, lost £4k day 2.
Debit cards now becoming much more of a thing for big bets.
Having watched the crowd’s engagement with royalty in
previous years, it’s clear the King has a v hard act to follow after such an involved Queen who loved the sport.
The cheers / hip hips etc as the king goes past are a whimper. I wouldn’t be surprised to see Royal Ascot
change quite a bit - thou it’s clear nobility/corporate still see
it as a fantastic event.

No worries.
The politics of a bookmaking ring, which is supposed to be a free market, but cannot be as outside elements cause disruption I find v interesting.
People say the over-rounds are high (they can be), but certain areas only bet to 1% margin or less. To recover £8k week expenses at that margin, you just physically cannot take / pay out the number of bets required, unless you have some really big hitters playing.
I feel the investment is marginal. If you have good/great staff working the pitch it’s possible, but it’s v tough to get great engaged staff, for relatively low wages.
