Now you're talking.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 1:36 pmEasy solution, for each hard working migrant we let in we'll send one of our lazy thick ones to their county. No more soft touch.

You need to read posts more carefully firlandsfarm. Of course you're happy with your interpretations because you interpret things however you like - we'd all be happy with that!firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 1:20 pmNo, I was laughing at the irony that you were all complaining that the UK Government should break international law because they don't like it but seemingly supporting the boat people over them breaking UK law when I suspect they also don't like it. And I'm happy with my interpretation.
I don't support the migrants (by the way, boat people are cartoon characters with bodies shaped like a boat, a head shaped like a mast and limbs sticking out of the boat), I was pointing out the hypocrisy of the government breaking the law but expecting others to keep it.
If the government can break international law because they didn't pass it, can't we break laws that we haven't passed?

A prosecutor is expected to prove his case at the trial, not before it. Perhaps when you're denied justice because you haven't conclusively proved your case before being given a hearing you'll understand.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 1:24 pmWe are a soft touch because someone can force their way into this country without permission and as I said are given free accommodation, free food and spending money when it has not been proven they have a valid case without contributing a penny towards the economy they are milking is evidence of a soft touch

Shaun, I know the advantages immigration can bring but as a country we are not ready for a large influx such as 600,000+ a year. that's more than the population of cities such as Bristol, Coventry, Sheffield, Newcastle, Halifax, Stoke etc. (numbers provided by Bard so may be inaccurate!). Can we support the building of a Newtown/city of such proportions each year and provide all the facilities such would need? Schools, hospitals, GPs, dentists, transport etc both in buildings and staffing, the list is endless. The migrants are needing the facilities from 'Go' but there is not just the money coming from to provide them but also the skills to build and running of them. We are complaining of various skill shortages now and I doubt the incoming migrants will have the skill balance to fulfil the additional need. And remember even if we could manage the 600,000 from last year will we be able to do so with the next 600,000 and the next 600,000 ... when will it stop?
The only way to control the influx is to stop it now and instigate a controlled programme. The problem at the moment is we are not in control, the boat people are. And I don't believe there is any way we can stop it (and don't listen to Labour they are simply proposing 5 generalities that sound good but with no detail as to how they will make them work). (According to Bard) only Belgium and Netherlands of the mainline European countries have a greater population density than the UK.

Funnily that's how I often see you interpreting things I say!
Does that mean cricketing people are shaped like a bat, ball, stump, bail, pad or maybe even like a box? And I was pointing out the hypocrisy of people criticising the Government for a possible breaking of the law but not those who look like a boat with a head shaped like a mast and limbs sticking out of the boat (like oars?) when they break the law.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 2:17 pmI don't support the migrants (by the way, boat people are cartoon characters with bodies shaped like a boat, a head shaped like a mast and limbs sticking out of the boat), I was pointing out the hypocrisy of the government breaking the law but expecting others to keep it.

But if you go to court and expect to claim costs you are not awarded your costs until AFTER you have proved your case! If you expect your costs to be pre-funded before going to court you will be in for a big surprise!

I was just saying whether you break your own laws or laws imposed on you, you are a law-breaker and it's pot kettle complaining about illegal migrants.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 7:57 amBut I would take your point if the UK Government set International Law!

Universal credit is hardly the life of Riley..... and remember UC includes your housing allowance.
I drew benefits in 2006 for 6 months, I'd been paying well over £1000 tax a month avg for the previous 20yrs. We got £120 a week, as a couple with a child under 18....and our private landlord rent was £750 a month. I said that's unsustainable and the reply was, if you make yourself homeless you could get housing but otherwise that's all you're getting. It's brutal not soft. And of course if you have more than 16k in savings you get zero.

You do not have the required permissions to view the files attached to this post.
...and depending on who your 'benefts advisor' is it can be bearable or torture. Last time I caved in after 3 months, despite being entitled to more (after only 6 months of claiming benefits - after 3 redundancies across my 25 year working life) I couldn't take the frosty, concrete, contempt with which I was treated.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Wed Jul 19, 2023 3:19 pmUniversal credit is hardly the life of Riley..... and remember UC includes your housing allowance.

I almost got a sanction because I'd applied to 2 employment agencies, when I was supposed to apply for 3 actual jobs. As an alternative punishment they forced me to go on a 2 day cv writing course when my prev job involved reading other people's to hire them! .... 15miles away and of course the bus fare was my bill.
A rule break in your 2 week sign-on period results in a SIX weeks of ZERO money. Even prisoners get fed housed and heating. The 'soft touch' DWP won't even feed children.
