I can't seem to figure out how horses odds move in relation to each other.

For example I see the favourite coming in steadily and expect to see the other horses drifting slightly but this doesnt always happen! Sometimes there can be 2-3 horses shortening together.

Today for example the favourite was priced at 2.12 and the second and third favourite were both priced around 4.00. When the favourite shortened one of the other favourites started to drift but one remained unchanged at 4.20.

I cant understand why one drifted and one stayed at the same price, I thought they would both drift. Are there any indicators before a drift/steam happens that point to which horses will move in relation to one another or is it just random?

Any advice welcomed.

There are many reasons but a good indicator is to watch the weight of money (WOM), When there is more on the lay side it will stay or tighten, when there is more on the back side it will tend to drift and the more the weight the more the drift. Check out the videos there is one on WOM.

Cheers.
