BA missing some vital and helpful functions
Recently i took a trading course which used another type of software. I have used Bet Angel now for nearly two years with moderate results. But i still think BA is missing a few things, ok we don’t want it overkill with functions but recently added was the practice mode. I welcomed that, although i do find sometimes the actual simulation is not as sharp as other simulations i have tried out , but its fairly near. What BA is missing is the practice bank (what amount you wish to trade with) and can see how you do over the weeks, also lay the field. You may be able to do this on excel, but not everybody wants to use Excel or understands commands of excel for trading. I like BA ,its robust and very user friendly, cost of monthly subscriptions is quite high but good if you take out the yearly which gives a huge discount especially if your turning over alot per month, but it just needs that bit more IMHO, everyone, ranting about going to other exchanges, i hope i don’t have to go to another product
you can lay the field (or back). bookmaking and or dutching screen.
or use the grid.
as for practice mode, i concede it could be useful for learning new features etc.(in your case laying the field, with the grid or bookmaking tab). but practice banks etc, pointless in my opinion.
if you were paper trading i assume you would use pen and paper. can you not record your notional bank, and set the stakes to liability (input your notional bank), and record the the "results". in effect you are still paper trading whether its a simulation or not.

Oh yes you can use the bookmaking facility, but i like the fact not using pen and paper when i need not toto75ne wrote:you can lay the field (or back). bookmaking and or dutching screen.

Lay the field was one of the first features we added many years ago. It currently sits on the manual bet screen and because it is a custom column you can put it where you like or even give it its own screen. Nominate the stake and use the back all or lay all column.
It's a nice idea to have a rolling practice bank total but it's pretty impractical to implement TBH. We have seen others use pretty arbitrary ways to achieve this. This doesn't work if you do anything more than basic trading. If you are looking to do this properly the practicalities are that we would need to implement a full resulting service and historically go back and settle markets. Which isn't practical, or cheap, to implement given the scale and scope of strategies that could be deployed on Bet Angel. You also have the issue of markets that are not settled immediately. It's a pretty complicated situation.
The practice mode works in the same way as other apps. When you place an order BA notes the traded volume at that level, puts your order to the back that queue and waits for the traded volume to reach a level where your order would match and does so. We threw a few other enhancements, that others haven't thought about, based on our knowledge of the markets; but ultimately all practice modes are limited by the fact your money doesn't influence the market so they only way you will know what happens is to use real money. You can modify the behavior of the practice mode by adjusting the 'traded volume' refresh in the communications settings. The faster this refreshes the quicker and more accurate the practice mode. Tweak these settings and save them in a 'practice' profile so you can switch it on or off quickly.

Hi Alpha,
Lay the field is on page 91 of the user guide.
'If you would like to back or lay the entire field in a market you can check the boxes at the
top of the manual bet section marked "Set all odds to:‟ and "Stake all with:‟ and enter
values in the relevant boxes.'
Then click on the 'Lay all' button.
I used to use this nearly every day at some point. I'm surprised you were unaware of it as you've been with BA Pro for some time by the sounds of it.

Thanks BA for the expressing the points about the rolling bank re cost etc etc. The refresh must explain when i see the price touch your order and nothing happens, but when am in live mode as you say things react quicker because its real moneyBet Angel wrote:The practice mode works in the same way as other apps. I will try lay the field strategies, its just i witnessed it as a one tick check button and didnt have to go to another screen
Thanks again
Thank you T yes two years with this software love it although i dont do to badly with it, i still have things to find in it, just when i see other software with stuff i havnt discovered on BA (especially trying them and they make a little packet for one) i get a little restless.TheTub wrote:Hi Alpha,

If you think about how a practice order fills it can only attempt to fill an order if the matched volume on that selection passes it. If you populate an area with your order and the price in the actual underlying market never takes a penny it can't fill it in practice mode. If there is money there already then it needs to pass that total for your practice order to be filled.
We have actually taken it a step further so your order can fill, but only given certain circumstances where that is very likely to occur in a normal market.
Modifying your screen layout to include lay the field if you wish. You can add or remove those sorts of features quite easily.
