hello
been trying to create an automation rule to lay up to 5 horses at SP on a given race without much luck to this point, helpdesk has given me a few pointers but I havent been able to make it work, any help will be greatly appreciated.

the rules I have used seem correct but it is not triggering so I must be missing something ,it goes without saying that I am a newbie on a large scale.

Lay them before the race and take SP
or
Lay them after the race starts and place the bets at the SP

Are you nominating the horses by name each race or picking them by order of fav etc?

thanks for the prompt reply Dallas, the idea is as follows, there are two or three races most days in which I will pick, up to 5 horses to lay at SP if I could be at my desk all the time I would not need automation, as that is not the case, I need to nominate each horse and leave the bot running till my return, I an not trading so no fancy rules are needed to close out trades. the only caveat is that the price can not be higher than 20 and that is where I can not take sp indiscriminately.

So to clarify lay them pre-off and then take SP?
Not lay them during the race at their SP?

Laying them pre-off to then take SP means checking they are less than 20 at the time the take SP rule triggers - but they might be more than 20 at the time of the actual start when the SP price is reconciled

Laying them after the start at their SP price means you can be 100% their SP was less than 20 before triggering the rule - but if the horse got off to a bad start and continues to run badly your lay bet won't always get matched

thanks for that ,I am beginning to understand that it is not simple to get matched in play, well, live and learn, in short there is no way to be sure I am going to get a match every time unless I lay pre race at lower prices and then take sp,can that be done with automation?

Yes, you can use automation to place a SP lay bet pre off and set a price limit of 20 (or whatever price you want), so it won't be matched if the SP price is any higher, but doing that Betfair require the liability is greater than £10
