Made some decent progress on the greyhound automation side of things recently.

Only issue is I'm putting lay bets into the market for small amounts (£15 liability say) about 7-10 secs before start time, with option to take SP if unmatched. (And we all know the volatility then)

Specifically sometimes these bets WILL be placed on the market and sometimes NOT. So it's not a case of the bets being taken, they just (sometimes) don't get placed in the first place.

I've been back and forward over my rules and conditions, and am sure it isn't them as sometimes they DO Fire.

I'm homing in now on guardian updates. Refresh rates etc. When you have say 150 dog markets in guardian it can be an issue.

Is there anything else I should look at ?

TIA

Surely the purpose of conditions is to control when they fire and when they don't. Are the bets failing to fire when they match all the conditions you've set?

It's not uncommon to see Greyhound markets go off before there scheduled start time, there has been cases of this happening up to 20-30secs before on some occcasions
If you check the time the market was suspended in the Bet Angel log to see if that was prior to your rules arm time

Also might be worth checking you PC clock is sync'd, a second or two out on most markets won't make a difference but on Greyhounds given they can go off early it can impact rules armed near the start easier

With 150 greyhound markets in Guardian you should be using the restricted refresh option on the advanced tab
Otherwise even at the fastest 20ms refresh rate it will take over 3seconds to cycle and refresh them all once

Thanks all. Yeah all conditions were being met Don't think there was a problem with early suspension and I am monitoring things here so restricted refresh is an obvious target now. I've never had to bother with it before, as only got so involved with dogs a little time ago.

I am in SE Asia though. Whether there's a problem with lag etc (forget the technical term - ping time ? ) could be worth a look as well.

Thanks to Dallas et al for their previous help with this bot. Just about reached steady consistent profit now

In my experience this is often a refresh rate issue

Refresh seems likely but 150 markets at 20ms is only 3 seconds so it's not a definate for bets placed 10s out.

If your BA log isn't showing the unmatched bet placement, or the take SP firing, then it must be in the conditions somewhere. If they're OK then I'd look at your bet history for clues, void and lapsed bets maybe?

Your comms (ie ping time) shouldn't be an issue unless it's an eternity. There's a lot of free ping testers, I'd suggest Ookla as the std web based one, try selecting any server in Dublin Ireland, where Betfair's data centre is, and see what it says to ping to that.

If you're a bit more technically minded you could use something called psping (google it or ask ChatGPT) and try connecting to api.betfair.com (IP 104.16.231.61). The ping time is the round trip so halve what you see for the time to Betfair.
