I wonder if virtual trading will take off?

https://pro.betfair.com/promotions/medi ... /bowcp.pdf

Betfair will soon be offering exchange betting on an innovative product called Winners Circle.

Winners Circle is unlike any other virtual racing product.

The race is run in real-time. Using a form of artificial intelligence, the horses and jockeys make second-by-second decisions during the race to maximise their chances of winning. Therefore the result is not known until a winner crosses the finish.

Using the provided race cards and historic form data, you have the opportunity to judge your own prices and apply your betting skill and judgement. A betting strategy based on the available information can genuinely improve your chances of winning.

The product will open in the next several weeks. In the meantime, we invite you to take a look at the preview material.

- Preview of Winners Circle on Betfair: read the preview pack on how the betting will work

- A Look Behind the Races: watch the video about how the races work

- Analyze the Form Data: download historical form data from the Winners Circle universe and get a head start on developing your betting strategy

If you have any questions or feedback, please email [email protected].

Although we may not be able to respond to every message, each one will be read by the exchange virtual racing team at Betfair. If you have a query specific to your account, please contact the Betfair Helpdesk. The Announcement page will be updated with further news.

Some people will probably go for that

If the form guide is consistent, there won't be any dodgy jockeys or trainers fixing results behind the scenes.

Just watched the video and read the pdf file. Not sure if this will take off but can definitely see people being interested in it, there are clearly a lot of people who use the Betfair arcade and I see this as just another extension of that. I would have thought it would appeal more to people backing than laying but I have to admit I am a bit naive when it comes to virtual racing/arcades etc as it just doesn't appeal.

If it is secure and decisions made real time it has something that normal racing doesn't have - people can be truly confident in it.

From a trading view point I don't think it would get anywhere near the turnover we see on racing at present but I wouldn't be surprised to see it get to the levels you see in the greyhounds and US racing.

With eventually 180 races a day, looks like they are every 6 minutes, there will be plenty of opportunities and for the smaller trader if you could average just £1 a race that would be a nice profit each day. I don't think you could expect to be making £100's a race like you can achieve in normal racing markets.

They are clearly interested in traders using it as they say it will be available via the API but also that means Bots will be all over this like a rash! Also Betfair have siad that they may ssed the markets - they are getting onto a very slippery slope!

Good time of the year to be launching as the weather often claims a lot of markets over winter so people could be looking for alternatives. I think it has the potential to be addictive for people as you can follow a horse through its career. It seems to be set out very much like the SIM games.

I guess we will have to see what happens, anyone got any views on it?

"In-running betting will not be available on Winners Circle races. Currently the camera angles aren’t conducive to evaluating the relative position of the horses throughout the race. However, we will be reviewing Winners Circle in the months after it goes live and consider evolving the product further.

The markets will be available to trade via the API.

There's something I don't understand,
according to the PDF betfair will offer forecast prices ; this means the virtual race is run a hundred times and the forecast prices are the exact probabilities of that horse winning (as they reflet how many wins the horse has had in the 100 simulations).
Doesn't this make all the other parameters useless? I mean, when we evaluate form, jockeys, wheather, etc are we not trying to see if the actual chance of a horse differs from the odds?
If we are given the actual chance from the start, what's the point??
