I received another one since posting that. She asked how I am, I didn't want to frighten her off before I could abuse her so I just said, can you get on with it, I'm busy. But I must have raised my voice without realising because she hung up.

I think they must get a lot of abuse so unless you express fear that the police will be knocking on your door they just hang up.
My sister just says "No thankyou" and hangs up. She says she doesn't want the bitterness of the aftermath of abusng someone she doesn't know nor knows the circumstances they are in. My strategy is to hang up. Least time wasted for us both.
We need a vocal chatbot we can link their calls to!
There's already a chat bot Lenny

I never know how to deal with the 'marginal' squares. For example top row middle two squares ... does a quarter of a side mirror count as a motorcycle?!

yes, it probably does. i was told on (decent) authority a few years back that the whole reason for the road related google images was down to allowing the engineers to use the failed identifications to perfect the software for their driverless cars... so, definitely a wing mirror counts as that would definitely roll a motorcycle if clipped ;)

I don't think I clicked the top squares and I got through. But the bottom-left, even if there was less of a wheel usually counts.

I don't know why it didn't accept the bus authentication when I clicked on every square. Maybe it's because I took a minute to rant about it!

What the CAPTCHA is really looking for is human behavior patterns as you click the pictures. This includes mouse tracking — where you move the mouse — and the timing between clicks. So far, that is really difficult to simultate with AI.

But it also compares your selections with what the CAPTCHA servers think is the correct answer. If you are significantly off, it might throw you another CAPTCHA. If you're close, it might let you in. But the real test is the mouse tracking mentioned previously.

Sometimes you don't even get a CAPTCHA; when you check the “I'm not a robot” box, the system checks the mouse tracking just before you clicked the box. If the tracking is consistent with human behavior, you're in with no CAPTCHA. If it's not sure, you get the CAPTCHA.

But you're also doing something more when you click the pictures: you're training Google's AI systems to recognize signs, storefronts, and other things. This helps improve Google's maps for accuracy.

The actual algorithms used with the CAPTCHA are a closely guarded secret, but that's the basics of what happens when you are forced to use a CAPTCHA

Every time I need to do some painting and go to B&Q to get some paint bucket liners I find the conniving bastards have changed the bucket, so I need to buy a new bucket!

If they're using us to improve their technology they should be paying us on account, 50 pence per captcha!

I've now had to delete my Spotify, BBC iPlayer, ITVx, Channel 4 and several porn accounts and reopen them with a different email address. Thanks a lot Bumfair!!!

Why do you want a liner? Emulsion is water soluble and doesn't even bond with a plastic tray or bucket.

But back to Betfair.... If you can't change your Betfair email address, how has not being able to change it meant you've had to change everything else? Those tv accounts don't even have payment methods registered if its a security thing.

And we'd be paying 5c per google search. YouTube, Google, Z etc are only free because we pay with the information we give them and the adverts we see. You've got to work for your free lunch.

It's wood stain, for my shed. I treated it with wood preserve last year but it's suffering from sun bleaching so I'm painting it a dark wood colour.

When I say you can't change your Betfair email, I mean you're not allowed to change it but one of the biggest tech companies in the world who boast that their zillions of transactions a day beats the European stock exchange, and who should have the best IT expertise available, for reasons best known to them have decided to make the sacred textbox that must not be touched upon pain of death, editable! It's almost as though they're following the lead of Vlad the Impaler leaving a golden cup in each village so he can impale anyone who nicks it! Anyone getting hold of your Betfair email can cause problems even if they don't have your password so I'd rather not use it anywhere else.

Back to painting my shed, I bought some Cuprinol, the instructions say minimum of two coats, additional coats must be applied on the same day within eight hours. Does that mean the first two coats can be done on different days?

I've just reinstalled Windows 11. Microsoft no longer allow you to create a local account, you have to log in with your Microsoft account. So I did that and after 40 minutes of configuring I now see my user folder is the first five characters of my email address!

What is wrong with these people? I now have to do some registry fiddling or create yet another account!

If you can access BBC Sounds from where you are there was a great edition of a radio program called The Moral Maze which was about "Is idleness good for us? " and how being busy was a 'virtue' created by the church to keep people out of trouble and industry to improve productivity. Aristoltle on the other hand thought a life lived remote from endless activity was the ideal. Imo Moral Maze is worth the licence fee on its own, it's in its 35th year and the archive should be on the national curriculum.
