Just picked up on the ITV Opening Show there's a DCMS committee hearing next Tuesday 5th on the Gambling White Paper starting at 10am. You should be able to watch it via the link below if you wish to:
https://committees.parliament.uk/event/ ... e-session/
The Gambling Commission will be giving evidence, it'll be interesting to see what they have to say especially when ministers were adamant any financial checks would be frictionless and the GC appear to have completely lost the plot.

Listening to this DCMS committee hearing, it sounds like its a case of working out the best way to avoid the white paper checks and making sure everything is in place when they do happen as don't see anything changing.
Just have to wait for GC's consultation results which are due winter time however so far only around 1500 people have completed it. No matter the side of the argument that's a poor response from both sides.
There seemed to be one or two questions indirectly digging at the legitimacy of Gamble Aware especially when it comes to funding with the NHS withdrawing funds form them.

Can someone please give a break down of what was said? What is likely to change? I'm primarily a value bettor if that makes any difference.

It it likely the affordability checks will be introduced? You can tell by my username I'm very worried!Michael5482 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:54 amListening to this DCMS committee hearing, it sounds like its a case of working out the best way to avoid the white paper checks and making sure everything is in place when they do happen as don't see anything changing.

Yes they'll be introduced that's nothing new, but it won't be getting introduced anytime soon though as there's another consultation period and the Government don't have a clue how it's going to be implemented yet so they'll still be pissing about in another 2 years time (and maybe a change of government will delay it further). Plus they appear to have not carried out a full impact study which one member of the committee found astonishing so wouldn't be surprised if one is now needed.AnxiousBettor wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 3:51 pmIt it likely the affordability checks will be introduced? Just have to play it by ear however there seems to be a bit of an issue in what ministers have said in parliament will happen and how the GC are going about it for example ministers have stated in parliament checks will be individual and frictionless where as the GC appear to have ignored that and introducing a postcode lottery by area along with asking for your job title, postcode (for area) and something else that I can't remember which is neither frictionless or individual. The GC were reminded of this.

When I was told to contact capitaltradingmanagement@paddypowerbetfair I thought, judging by the name, that I was in for an affordability check. It left me worried how I'm gonna prove I can afford to spend £0 on gambling. What sort of income is required to do that?

Will the affordability checks be easy to circumvent? Are they actually going to be as draconian as proposed?Michael5482 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 4:15 pmYes they'll be introduced that's nothing new, but it won't be getting introduced anytime soon though as there's another consultation period and the Government don't have a clue how it's going to be implemented yet so they'll still be pissing about in another 2 years time (and maybe a change of government will delay it further). Here you suggest they're trying to avoid the white paper checks. What do you mean by this?Michael5482 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 11:54 amListening to this DCMS committee hearing, it sounds like its a case of working out the best way to avoid the white paper checks and making sure everything is in place when they do happen as don't see anything changing.

I was talking about us as gamblers once everyone knows the exact criteria for the checks you can then attempt to try to insulate yourself from them and prepare if you have one conducted on yourself. For example sort your credit score out, lower stakes but more markets, grow your balance now and don't deposit for example. Gambling isn't going anywhere you'll just have to be a bit more savvy in your approach.AnxiousBettor wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 4:25 pmHere you suggest they're trying to avoid the white paper checks. Hopefully the affordability checks won't apply to horseracing.Michael5482 wrote: ↑Tue Sep 05, 2023 4:45 pmThe Racing Posts on today
