Do you know, there was a TWO DOG race the other week! And many tracks often go down to 4 or 3 for the majority of the card.
Not good for my lay place strategies based on 6 runners...

That's a rarity, only 2 races with 2 dogs since Jan 2021. There's been 4 races with 8 runners in that period!Crazyskier wrote: ↑Thu Sep 07, 2023 3:18 pmDo you know, there was a TWO DOG race the other week! And many tracks often go down to 4 or 3 for the majority of the card.

Hmm, spikes for each year around summer-early autumn. My guess it is hot weather and dogs health related, so it's gonna be every year pattern. As for the trend... I think it's effect of that new regulation that forbids dogs to run if it didnt get rest enough. And, in general, the result of pressure of animal rights organizations.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 2:26 amThat's a rarity, only 2 races with 2 dogs since Jan 2021. 6 dog races are a smaller proportion of races than they were, but I don't like guesswork so I ran the numbers.

Too many races and not enough dogs. Apparently they are decreasing the number of races next year to fix this. I think the early morning meetings starting at 08:12 are gonna be scrapped. Also the sport is dying. We just had 2 of the biggest events of the year for greyhounds in the Irish derby and English derby recently and there was very little mention of it anywhere. I watch RPGTV every now and then and they're always moaning about the sport dying, poor prize money, too many races, bookies having too much control, animal rights protestors etc.
I was hoping it was that.
I won't miss the 8.12 Suffolk starts! 10.46 is quite adequate, given that the latest summer tracks go to after 10pm, Romford and I think Hove often seem to have two events per day, one early and one later in the evening.banana_man wrote: ↑Fri Sep 08, 2023 10:08 amToo many races and not enough dogs. Vol per runner? Could do but I'm away for a few days.
That's why Dallas is always being asked things, and he doesn't just post 'a reply' it's a really thorough one you know he's thought about. Whatever he's paid it's not enough.
