Does anyone not hate it when there is a price spike in-play, e.g when the favourite is at a price below 2 I tend to lay at 10 should in case the horse starts to drifts, however, once there is a spike in price it takes my lay bet and suddenly steams back down and win. After seeing this happen countless times I've kinda notice it happens usually in races that are 2m long and above in distance. Has anyone noticed this too or even with races that are shorter??

I don't trade IP but I would have thought that's all part of the game, things happen in the race, horse stumbling, boxed in, under pressure, etc. If the horse is below 2.0 why would you want to lay it at 10?

...believe or not horses even at a price below 2 lose all the time and my strategy has always been to lurk so when it begins to drifts i take advantage but you are right certain things do happen inplay that could affect the price hence the spike.

Spikes are short term mispricings, mispricings are our bread and butter. When a horse is travelling at 2.0 then you want to be offering to back at 10 not lay because so many people run stop losses that can rapidly take a price out to an unrealistic point, aka a spike. There's two sub-types of 'trader', those who still think like punters and those who are their nemisis :) aka if you're losing or find a situation difficult, move to the other side of the shop counter.

You've just got to think who's getting your money, and what you have to do to be that person.

Spikes can occur in all markets for all kinds of reasons and are a very good thing. Unless you're the cause of one.

I take it you meant to say many times or lots of times. :)

Odds-on horses lose, but they often struggle under pressure, drift to 5 or 6 and then respond or another horse has a mishap and they come back to win. If an odds-on horse is struggling, I might be inclined to lay it at 2.5, maybe 3.5, but going all the way up to 10 is leaving you exposed to getting stung, as your opening question suggests. Certainly not something I'd want to do.
