RANT CORNER
Unfortunately, I doubt that tree has any special legal protection. If that's the case, it would be just like chopping down any tree and he'll probably get two weeks litter picking.
On the plus side, he might get lynched while doing it.

Is that 40M or 400M, with a comma in the wrong place?ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 4:13 pmEveryday 80,000 acres of rain forest are lost and another 80,000 degraded. 80,000 acres is approx 40,000,0000 trees.

It's 400-600 per acre Derek so 40m trees a day plus associated ecosystem.
I hope that people who feel something about this one tree spare a thought for what's happening on a global scale. Frankly the boo hooing and eulogising seems a bit like virtue signalling in the wider context.

"Climate Change" is also a serious crime and requires a serious penalty for the culprit

"changing" makes it sound like something we'll acclimatise to, it's 'change' where the end point is a scorched rock.Derek27 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 9:42 pmYou mean causing climate change. Every single one of us would be guilty of that, unless you don't use electricity, gas and only travel on foot or horseback.![]()
For those that think our 1 or 2% isn't worth doing, 30% of global emissions is from counties contributing 1% or less each. We're not necessarily at the mercy of China, India and the US.
A second person has been arrested. He's the guy with the pulleys, ropes and pickup trucks. I reckon the 16-year-old was his apprentice or on lookout duties.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Thu Sep 28, 2023 10:55 pmA fckn big chain saw and a lot of skill. I'm appalled too but that's one of the cleanest cuts I've seen. I don't get how he did it without pulleys and ropes to stop the blade being trapped. And how did a 16yo get all that gear there without a vehicle.

Causing "Climate Change" in some people's eyes is just as much a serious crime as cutting down a treeDerek27 wrote: ↑Fri Sep 29, 2023 9:42 pmYou mean causing climate change.
