Yes but how do you know that the person you are pointing your gun at is a member of Hamas and not just a Palestinian civilian?

Am listening to a live Israel press conference claiming the hospital bomb was a misfired Hamas rocket! It's very difficult to know what is going on!
So am I. I'm too pissed to go through your posts right now. I'll read them when I get up in the afternoon and respond to the maximum extent acceptable under forum rules.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 7:55 amAm listening to a live Israel press conference claiming the hospital bomb was a misfired Hamas rocket! But I think it's unlikely that misfired rockets would home in on a hospital. The spokesmen speaking right now looks very nervous!

Yeah, a follow-up news report claims the Hamas rockets don't have the explosive power of the hospital explosion. Israel had better be right on this or many will put them into the same category as Putin with his statements of 'facts'!!Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 8:20 amSo am I. Of course you could always spare others by not bothering to respond to the other comments!

I think Israel is expert at this. They've done things in the past that have outraged me, but Hamas are a different proposition. There is a difference between terrorism (Hamas) and protecting your internationally recognised sovereign state from rockets and terrorist raids.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 7:33 amYes but how do you know that the person you are pointing your gun at is a member of Hamas and not just a Palestinian civilian?
I'm afraid the general population in Gaza are between a rock and a hard place. It's genuinely terrible but innocent Gazans have and will die and it's Hamas that are to blame.
At least all this carnage might end the situation that has existed in the west bank for decades. Its basically a giant open air prison for the Palestinian people. Hamas are using terrorism for political ends and I doubt they care how many die. They are Jihadists after all
So, it looks like Israel wasn't responsible after all. Anna Botting should be thoroughly ashamed of herself for last night's judge, jury and executioner interview, as should the idiots who've gathered outside our Israeli embassy. In fact, instead of ranting on here, I think I've reached the age of complaining to TV companies.

That's naive in the extreme. Many billions follow religion peacefully, and many billions more have benefitted and continue to benefit from the charitable and educational works of a variety of Churches worldwide. As others have said it's an obvious nett gain for society.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 7:11 amI disagree!Crazyskier wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 2:58 pmI disagree.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Sun Oct 15, 2023 8:55 amReligion has caused more wars in the name of peace than all other reasons for war added together!
Religions all generally teach tolerance, love and respect, but MEN misusing. misquoting and misinterpreting the extreme elements of religion, have indeed caused much heartache and suffering - 7/7 and 9/11 to name a couple in my lifetime.
EDIT - you could apply that argument to almost ANY war - It's about a twisted ideology that MEN, persuade others is worth killing for. I and billions like me believe God to be love, in it's purest form. See Lewis Hamilton's neck for more info : - )

Whether it is the religious teachings or that some have used their interpretation of religion to create war, religion has still caused it, directly or indirectly.
BTW I have no desire to see LH's neck nor do I care what he has had done to it. Like Gary Lineker he is just a sporting celebrity, his view on life is no more defining than yours and mine.
What you're referring to are warmongers using extreme views of scripture as an excuse for violent acts. If it wasn't this, it would be something else, though I concur that the Muslim religion in particular does seem to have more than it's fair share of those teaching 'Holy jihad' and trying to turn Western nations to Islam, and creating their own laws and rules, as only too evident in the last few decades. But even then, the vast majority of Muslims are peace-loving moderates who detest what jihadis have done in their name.

Far too many Islamic extremist groups everywhere. None of these are democratic countries either, poverty and political instability seems to be the environment they thrive in, especially if you throw in a bit of oppression in the mix. Unless these conditions change eventually you can't see them changing their values, at least the Russians try to hide their atrocities.Crazyskier wrote: ↑Wed Oct 18, 2023 9:18 pmI concur that the Muslim religion in particular does seem to have more than it's fair share of those teaching 'Holy jihad' and trying to turn Western nations to Islam, and creating their own laws and rules, as only too evident in the last few decades.
It's really sad that Arab countries don't seem interested in helping Palestinians either and the West has to do it via UNRWA etc, they seem happy to let someone keep Israel on their toes instead.
maybe i'm just getting dumber in my old age. but from the perspective of damning Hamas for the loss of life in the hospital incident, why did Israel issue this statement yesterday if they insist that Hamas were the perpetrators:

'Several dozen', not hundreds, killed in hospital blast - Israel
On Wednesday afternoon, a day after the blast at the hospital, Palestinian health authorities said 471 people had been killed.
Like other details about the incident, that is contested.
Israel's foreign ministry spokesperson Lior Haiat said the death toll was "several dozen".

I think you'll find that Lior is spelled L-I-A-R!!
