Good morning All,

I am developing a bot that lays Over x goals markets just prior to kick off, gradually legging out with a series of back bets. The bot should green up after 10 mins with the rule type 'Close Trade On Selection With Greening' in row 2 Betfair order. Also...
- the trigger is armed at 10 mins until 12 mins after the event start time
- allows the rule to trigger up to 6 times
- waits 5 seconds before rearming

The bot worked fine on 5 matches yesterday. However, in the 6th match, it appeared to trigger only 4 times, placing 4 closure bets. These 4 closure bets were not enough to fully green the trade, and as I am manually monitoring the bots until I'm fully confident it works, I was able to manually green the remainder of the trade. However, obviously I am now not confident of running the bot entirely automatically until I have resolved the issue.

I am also using optimised greening - not that I think this should interfere but thought it worth pointing out just in case.

Please can anyone give any pointers here as to what might be happening? It's the fact that it has worked on the 5 previous occasions that is confounding me.

Thank you.

Paul

I’m guessing that it’s probably the trigger length. 10-12 mins maybe a bit short.
If there’s a suspension during that time, it will reduce the greening time.

I would also suggest that you add (tick) (add markets betting delay ) to your rule.
That’s on the General tab next to rearm timer. That will give your rule a bit of time to breathe. Betfair sometimes change the bet delay during a match, If this happens you could find yourself double greening.

Less than perfect reds or greens are an occupational hazard but as you're trading hundereds of events a year with thousands of bets then the variance due to results balances out.

Before worrying too much about this do some analysis of your betting, are your greening bets actually profitable? If not then it would be better to accept the slightly lumpy PL than trying to artificially smooth it.

People often try to analyse their results by looking at market totals but those are just subtotals of what could be dozens of bets. If you optimise your betting the market totals take care of themselves. Especially true when you're automating and you're already giving away value by eschewing all that useful subjectivity.

Thank you both for your replies.

Dabbla, I have extended the trigger length for greening, and I have also ticked 'Add market's betting delay' - I will monitor this and see how it goes. As you say though, Shaun, I doubt I will ever be able to smooth this to the same degree as when I trade manually. The paper trades I have undertaken though for this strategy so far are promising.
