Of they don't. Gutless leftie cretins who don't understand basic economics.
They'd have continued spending like crazy if they'd won the election... only stopping when the bond market called time on the UK after the total collapse of the £ and inflation like the 70s.
The sad thing is that the average voter doesn't understand basic economics either, which is why they get away with the "too far, too fast" bolux policy message on the 'cuts'.

hmmm I remember the seventies, no fun atall... sadly I feel the cuts have to happen, to basically balance the books, as already said the uk must not, can not, get into the same shit like some of the other members of the eurozone. I know we want to increase this and that and growth et al but mountains of employment legislation just guarantees the manufacturing going abroad. It is going to be very painfull for quite awhile......
Groovy -
I agree.
It's interesting that Ms Harman's letter goes further than official Labour Party policy. That makes me wonder whether she's trying to set out her own distinct agenda and move one step closer to the top job.
If she ever becomes PM, then can the last person to leave Britain please turn out the lights?

I missed Harriet Harm-men's letter... 'you got a link?
Groovyelms, I'm a seventies child and I remember nothing but a great quality of life - not financially or materially , far from it, but happy times nonetheless.

No, sorry.superfrank wrote:I missed Harriet Harm-men's letter... 'you got a link?
BTW, it's interesting that the BBC news website seem to have decided not to feature this story (either that, or they've kept their write up very well hidden!).
I've submitted a complaint to them, as I feel that decision shows bias. If the Labour Party are hardening their stance re. austerity measures, then that's an important political development, and the public have a right to be informed.
