Precisely. Gas is the big consumer of my energy cash. I want to save money and I want to use less energy that harms the planet. The private energy companies have a different agenda. Octopus like to present themselves as eco-friendly, but they can't get something as simple as this right. But their failure drops more cash into their coffers. Funny that!, not!Derek27 wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 1:59 pmI've heard a lot of them only work with the energy supplier that supplied it, which isn't much use. Don't know if it's true but I've heard energy suppliers can disconnect you remotely if you don't pay your bill and have a smart meter fitted.greenmark wrote: ↑Sat Nov 11, 2023 1:43 pmWhat is the point of a smart meter IHD (In house dsiplay)?
3 months after install it stopped giving me figures for gas. Bulb went into govt contol and within 2 weeks the IHD was accurate again.
Now Octopus have taken the Bulb customer base. Guess what. The IHD sometimes accurately tells me what I've used in the last 30 minutes, but more often it shows me that yesterday I used what I actually used the day before.
This is bog standard simple IT stuff. A cynic (me) would conclude the private energy companies want to detach their customers from their real time usage.
Result = bonus for the energy company.
For me, an electricity smart meter is useless as I use the same amount all year round, but I wouldn't mind having a gas smart meter. It's the only thing that really fluctuates if you have gas CH and you can turn the CH down if you think you're wasting gas. You can't turn your oven down to save electricity or your food won't cook.![]()
The "smart" bit uses a sorta cellular network outside the normal phone frequency to upload data and there can be issues especially in rural areas - hot spots and not spots although I thought the meters were supposed to work in relay mode for auto connection by local have-nots. Not sure where data is stored. SMETS2 meters are portable across suppliers.
My previous day's data is usually available on the Octopus by midday.

The last time that happened to me was when I decided to share a Vodka and Orange Juice with everything on the table.
Sadly, it's about time BA upped their moderation very significantly imho. Posts used to be helpful, informative and polite once upon a time and the forum was a "go to" for factual advice, information and ideas. The forum is becoming useless as more and more threads are being contaminated by page after page of off-topic keyboard warrior rubbish from multiple participants. THIS should be the only thread where such such postings are allowed. Rant over.

No excuses for this. It's easy IT.
If you can get it right 6 months ago, you can get it right today. It really is that simple.
The energy companies are scum and will cynically edge the situation to their advantage.
The more folk that lose visibility of their usage the better it is for the energy companies.
This eco stuff the energy companies spout is just nonsense.
They want us to use as much energy as possible - it's their raison d'être.
That's the way the world works unfortunately. He dumps his problems on me, so I dump them on the forum.

Unbelievable! These people commit damage because they know their will be no comeback!
Could someone please explain.
Could someone please explain.
Not an activist but I always thought they were using desperate tactics to raise awareness for their cause? And to inspire others to join up etc
It's not always just young people, there's a 71 year old woman there and a few others of similar age apparently
