To predict that a race is about to start, I measure the increase in liquidity at regular intervals. This works great in Australia due to a spike in volume right before start. However, I have not had the same success with these criteria for UK racing, as they often fail to detect delayed races.
EDIT: I am doing great on tennis and greyhound, but losing money on UK horse racing, due to:
1. Entering the market too early (happens when a race is 2+ minutes delayed)
2. Not able to close a trade because the initial bet is matched too late, 1-2 seconds before off, which is not enough time for an offset bet, or being able to take SP. Therefore, the bet is automatically closed by the "Green All Selections" rule, which could be very costly.
Before being able to sort this out, I can't see how I could possibly make money. I understand that a TPD subscription might be the best solution, or the only real one. Since I only trade pre off, I hoped for a cheaper way/method.
Dallas, can you build a Horse Bot that detects/indicates delayed races?
Can you use seconds to race time? (I presume that goes negative)lotora wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 3:32 amTo predict that a race is about to start, I measure the increase in liquidity at regular intervals. You can do stuff with TPD. eg something that triggers an alert when all horses are within a few% of the total race distance to indicate they are all at the start. But of course this requires a TPD subscription and is only available on ATR tracks.lotora wrote: ↑Sat Nov 18, 2023 3:32 amTo predict that a race is about to start, I measure the increase in liquidity at regular intervals. This type of thread has been brought up before.

One way for traders to remove risk from this scenario is to place bets to be taken at SP if not filled, Peter has done a good video about this.

You can then trade as long as possible right up to the off without fear.
