OMG, should this be in the Jokes Thread, maybe the Rant Thread or maybe the General Election Thread but I decided to PMSL over a beer ...

Labour controlled Lincoln Council have decided to 'ban' the local Christmas market (apparently the oldest in the UK first run in 1982). Why? You may ask ... because they fear it will be too successful!!!!
My sister lives in Edinburgh and the festival and hogmanay are absolute bedlam. I remember one festival were I was early picking her up.So I killed some time in a pedestrianised area that had been turned into "street entertainer city". I kid you not, I could barely manouvere my way through. I accidentally kicked some guy's walking stick because I simply couldn't see my or his feet. But some people love this kind of buzzing atmos.

The council does have a duty of care (particularly in these litigious times). But it does seem a bit nuts and grumpy.
Then again I have read some of the Lincoln public are positively against bringing the Xmas market back. But that might just be nimbyism.
Maybe they should vote on it. Oh hang on the public elected Labour. Ah well thats politics!
:D Good points but if something is popular shouldn't steps be taken to male it safe if that is the worry. Apparently 250k people visited the market last year spending some £11m ... that must be a boost to the city?

Change of mind, I've moved this to the GE 2024/5 thread because of latest development.

Taylor Swift has been named Times Magazine person of the year, beating Trump's prosecutors in the process.

43 years ago today some f*cking lunatic in New York took John Lennon away from us :( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rAn-AWXtHv0 ... I wonder what music he would have gone on to produce.

RIP John, Imagine there's no countries It isn't hard to do. Nothing to kill or die for, and no religion, too

Quite an emotional finish to Shaun Macgowan's funeral. I sat through over an hour of it waiting for the finale, but it was worth the wait. :D

Where do I watch that Dex. I hear he was a real Rock Legend. And of course 'Fairytale of New York'. Who doesn't know that one, come on.

It was live on Sky News. Long service, it reminded me of the boredom I experienced as a kid when I was subjected to mass, but there was a fair bit of live music chucked in, along with Fairytale of New York.

His wife and sister gave amusing eulogies. It sounds like he was a right nutter, but a nice nutter nonetheless. :) Never judged or walked pass homeless people without giving them a drink, feet firmly on the ground despite his stardom.

Lennon had an ability to distill emotion. That song is perfect and the sentiments are inarguable.

If we can't converge on our love of music, we're stuffed.

I've just seen a documentary about Steven Grieveson, a.k.a. the Sunderland Strangler. When he was eleven, he went into a hardware store, opened a pack of nails and stole one nail. The shopkeeper caught him and was so furious he called the police and Grieveson even ended up in the magistrates court, for nicking one nail!

Makes me realise how lucky I was when I was caught nicking Airfix paints from Woolworths at the same age. I was just made to pay for them.

INGREDIENTS: Pork (98%), honey (3%) ... so how does that work?
