Not sure they ever had? All I know is that the bigger clubs join the competition in rounds 2 and 3.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 4:10 pmDo they still have two-legged matches for the first two rounds? I've never understood why that was.Kai wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 3:00 pmNot sure why the EFL Cup semi is still a two-legged affair, this heavily favours big teams to get into the final.
Surely this goes against the very spirit of a cup competition??
And a week long half-time break is hardly exciting. A bit more money for a lot less drama seems a poor trade-off.

Turkish football in a bit of a mess, Istanbulspor's president withdrew his team after a referee decision and refused to play on today so match abandoned.

Imagine walking off the pitch when you don't get a penalty decisionMichael5482 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 5:50 pmTurkish football in a bit of a mess, Istanbulspor's president withdrew his team after a referee decision and refused to play on today so match abandoned.

Absolutely ridiculous, permaban the guy and deduce 20 points
I've known a few kids that went berserk when they were losing a game, but I doubt any of them grew up to become president of a football club.Kai wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 8:58 pmImagine walking off the pitch when you don't get a penalty decisionMichael5482 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 5:50 pmTurkish football in a bit of a mess, Istanbulspor's president withdrew his team after a referee decision and refused to play on today so match abandoned.

There was a club owner down in Greece couple years ago, he went down to the pitch to have a word with the ref, carrying a handgunDerek27 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 9:14 pmI've known a few kids that went berserk when they were losing a game, but I doubt any of them grew up to become president of a football club.Kai wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 8:58 pmImagine walking off the pitch when you don't get a penalty decisionMichael5482 wrote: ↑Wed Dec 20, 2023 5:50 pmTurkish football in a bit of a mess, Istanbulspor's president withdrew his team after a referee decision and refused to play on today so match abandoned.

He was a close personal friend to Putin, so not much of a surprise there

Buncha cowboys down there
It was this guy : https://www.bbc.com/sport/football/43369490
Are you sure that article isn't a joke?

The club was deducted three points - but managed to overturn the sanction on appeal - after Olympiakos coach Oscar Garcia was hit by a toilet roll thrown from the stands at PAOK in February.

European Super Court judges UEFA & FIFA rules banning clubs from the European Super League was unlawful.

Sounds like it has more to run especially with all the money in football, UEFA & FIFA are greedy at the best of times but so are clubs especially all these big money foreign owners. The European Super League was just replacing greedy UEFA & FIFA with greedy clubs and owners.
Wouldn't surprise me to see the Saudi's sniffing about with a LIV style league shortly, the saving grace is English fans of every club won't entertain none of it full stop and rightly so. It's like certain clubs/individuals want to suck every last penny and with it the life out of football.

I skim read that and thought a literal toilet was thrown from the stands for a second. Wouldn't have been that surprising given the episodes that have occurred. When I was a kid Italy had a very bad hooligan problem and I recall someone dying after being hit by a vespa from the stand above.
