What are chips like in an air fryer, if you've tried them?
I find big chunky fat chips do not work well in an air fryer, there is a degradation in taste but skinny chips (french fries) work well and I don't notice any degradation in taste.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:20 amWhat are chips like in an air fryer, if you've tried them?
ASDA are selling them for £32, and having just emptied and cleaned my deep fat fryer I'm tempted to get one. The big problem with DFFs is that once you've cooked chicken in them everything tastes of chicken!
Air fryers are incredible. We have two. The way the wife cooks the chips in the AF are just as good as deep fried.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:20 amWhat are chips like in an air fryer, if you've tried them?

Fuck air fryers, I'll get myself a wife.Realrocknrolla wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:56 amThe way the wife cooks the chips in the AF are just as good as deep fried.
I've only just got the advice. I'll probably get on and use both, but in future I'll only cook chicken or fish in the DFF when it's nearing an oil change.greenmark wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 12:05 pmHave you bought one yet?Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:20 amWhat are chips like in an air fryer, if you've tried them?

Which suggest the ASDA £32 job is a DON'T BUY.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 1:44 pmI've only just got the advice. Thanks for that advice greenmark. I've had my DFF for 15 odd years so it's probably worth spending a bit of money on a good air fryer if I'm gonna have it that long.greenmark wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 5:17 pmWhich suggest the ASDA £32 job is a DON'T BUY.
"Best avoided
With lacklustre, uneven cooking, this air fryer is a Don’t Buy and best avoided. If you want great low-fat fried food, you’ll need to spend a bit more and get a Best Buy.
pros
Compact and simple-to-use design
dishwasher safe
cons
Dreadful at cooking
feels cheaply made
not energy efficient
KEY TEST RESULTSCooking chips until golden brown
★★☆☆☆
Ease of use
★★★★☆"

These are Which's "best value". If you can't see them let me know and I'll copy/paste. And I can copy/paste best buys if you want.
I agree. With these devices its best to get the best. The question is always "what is te best?". That is why i subscribe to Which.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 7:01 pmThanks for that advice greenmark. Be careful when doing fries, they are easily overcooked and become more like matchstick crisps!Emmson wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:37 amI find big chunky fat chips do not work well in an air fryer, there is a degradation in taste but skinny chips (french fries) work well and I don't notice any degradation in taste.Derek27 wrote: ↑Mon Jan 01, 2024 11:20 amWhat are chips like in an air fryer, if you've tried them?
