Hello, I'm thinking about starting to trade on horse racing but I'm not sure whether there are high and low season in horse racing (not from a country where horse racing is big).
Do people have any public numbers on traded volume during the year? Is it worth starting now or volumes I'll see are not representative?
I've found some old reports https://www.betfairtradingblog.com/betf ... ge-review/ but they're aggregated for the whole year, and old. I've heard volume is just going down since then.
Are there high and low seasons? Worth starting now?
There are high and low seasons. Whether your chosen strategies are more profitable in high or low seasons is a separate issue.mmbookie2 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2024 9:50 amHello, I'm thinking about starting to trade on horse racing but I'm not sure whether there are high and low season in horse racing (not from a country where horse racing is big).

If you are talking about UK horse racing then there is certainly more races during the summer half of the year (Apr - Sept). More races = more opportunities.
We are now in the peak for UK horse racing in terms of volumes traded, there a blog (link below) about this which includes a chart displaying the traded volume per month throughout the year.mmbookie2 wrote: ↑Sun Jun 09, 2024 9:50 am

Its a few years since the chart was produced and overall totals of traded volumes are down now, but the general pattern is still very much the same
