Someone from my old Tory party association emailed me and is indicating that 11 people close to the Tory party are being investigated over betting allegations.

11 does seem on the short side. Judging by partygate, I suspect an email was sent out to a 300-strong mailing list with the subject - GET YOUR FREE MONEY NOW!!!

Looks like the TUC wants Kier to implement the same system as applied in Australia when it comes to employee leave entitlements.

1. Annual Leave:
• Four weeks of paid leave per year for full-time and part-time employees.
• Five weeks for shift workers.
2. Personal/Carer’s Leave:
• Ten days of paid leave per year for personal illness or to care for a family member.
3. Parental Leave:
• 12 months of unpaid leave, with an option to request an additional 12 months.
• Paid leave may be available from the government.
4. Long Service Leave:
• Entitlement varies by state and typically applies after 10 years with the same employer.
5. Public Holidays:
• Paid leave for public holidays based on ordinary hours.

I bet a fair few employers are going to be getting shot of staff via multiple means if Kier implements the above etc.

Is there anything sinister in there?
I like the Scandanavian model.
High taxes, high support in extremis. High expectation to be a good citizen throughout your life.
I like that contract.

I wonder how many had a bet on the Asian markets. Presumably the gambling commission can’t easily check ?

I know from experience, when I've seen a few free quid on the exchange, you feel like a child in an icecream shop when the shopkeeper's buggered off. All logic and commonsense goes out the window.

Based on the betting markets on Betfair the amounts are tiny. Not the sort you place if you KNOW something is going to happen.

If you time travelled from the future and knew the score for the England match this evening. You would just stick everything on it. Not have a few quid here and there.
