One of the points I was trying to make earlier (badly) is that if they are having a bet based on information gathered by local constituencies then they and the party will almost certainly be in breach of data protection rules which is another whole round of trouble.
"For serious breaches of the data protection principles, we have the power to issue fines of up to £17.5 million or 4% of your annual worldwide turnover, whichever is higher."
==> they could go after the parties as well as the individuals..
I don't think its as simple as "we just have a few bad apples, lets move on"...

I have seen the data some parties collect at a constituency level... It includes name, address, voting intention etc... It comes from a variety of sources including the person that knocks on your door for a chat.
Even if you tell them where to go, that will get logged as not a supporter (and they will usually tell you quite clearly who they are supporting in the volley of abuse that accompanies the response)..
The people responsible for collating this data are (should be) well aware of their data responsibilities but that doesn't stop someone with access from misusing it.
edit - ah see the point you are making.... think the issue would be using data in a way that was not originally intended (when they aggregate and someone picks up that to place a bet)

We now have more police officers being investigated than election candidates. So far.
I wonder if there was a special WhatsApp group and if yes why wasn’t I invited into it.

But, about insider knowledge trading, Sports, Financial, Political or anything else.
I do not understand why people are risking their jobs, pensions and liberty over a few undred / thousand £.
In context, today at 3.00pm UK time there was a scheduled major financial information declaration regarding USA Pending Home Sales m/m. Previous was -7.7%, Forecast was 0.6% with Actual being -2.1%.
At 2.40pm UK time the $ started dropped over 200 forex points against all its forex currency pairs. Did someone or an instituion take a gamble or were they passed information regarding that news announcement at 3.00pm.
As a result, a individual or collective has made $billions within 30 minutes or so. Don't forget, insider financial trading carries a mega fine and prison term meaning bankruptcy and 20 years plus sharing a cell with god knows what in the USA.
My point, if your going to do it, then go big and makesure the potential payoff outways the potential downside.

These people have several irons in the fire. Which makes it all the more depressing that they should be interested in a few hundred quid. They have a problem with their behaviour and should not be an MP. They should seek help.Derek27 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 4:23 pmThey thought they'd never get caught.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 3:24 pmNot directly linked to the contents of this thread.

Agreed but what about these 7 police officers all now being investigated for betting on the current election result, I guess the excuse is they only earn half what an MP earns, so bigger temptation ?greenmark wrote: ↑Thu Jun 27, 2024 8:05 pmThese people have several irons in the fire. I find the whole saga rather stupid. Risk everything for a few pennies in comparison to the potential loses.
