Random large amounts entering into football markets
Hi, I was hoping someone can give me some insight, views or have the same suspicions as me on something that as occured a few times to me on football trading. I've had my price matched and the market has moved in my favour and I have just been waiting for my exit price to be matched when an unexplained large amount of money will enter out of nowhere helping to dictate the market prices. For example I layed £200 on Everton last week v Wigan. My price was matched at 1.44 and my back price I had been waiting for was 1.5 which was one of the first in the queue giving me a £12 free bet which the market had reached and was waiting to be taken. Then £8000 appeared on the back side in the blink of an eye all at once. I know that the maximum exposure is £3000 but i'm in no doubt there is a way round this and it was just one person as the £8000 would always move in one single action all at once but not being in a position to be immediately matched as it moved up & down as when the market did. I found this bafflin as both back and lay sides had nothing more than just over £1000 at the time which had a negative effect on my trade. It made no sense as if this person wanted this bet matched at the best price, common sense would have been to let the bet rise further & then put smaller amounts into the market getting a better price. Eventually as the price fell as predicted the £8000 was taken out of the market unmatched but the damage had already been done and I ended up being in the dangerous position of going into the in play market as not to take a loss. In my mind I think this could have happened for a few reasons i) A naieve random high roller who's trying to get a bet matched at a price they feel is right & doesn't have a strategy. ii) A professional who's earlier trade as gone against them & are purposely dictating the market by putting a false amount in the weight of money iii) A professional who's got some late information or have picked up on something i've missed knowing that the market will move iv) It's a slow matched market and it's betfair that are doing this to try to maximise profits by getting the market moving. I would really appreciate other peoples views or similar experiences as i've become increasingly frustrated and my minds been working overtime on this matter.

Not sure what you mean by this but the maximum exposure you can have as far as I am aware is the amount of money in your account. There are pre-set levels but a quick phone call will get Betfair to lift these if you wish.werewolf wrote: I know that the maximum exposure is £3000 but i'm in no doubt there is a way round this
Sounds like someone was manipulating the market.
Could be Betting Promotions (viewtopic.php?f=2&t=1388&hilit=million), assuming that the new Premium Charge hasn't put them off trading on Betfair...

You see this alot on the Football Overs/Unders markets. Usually £4 - 5K just before the last price to be taken
I was told last year that It Is Betfair Traders who do this to stop the price dropping too quick. that does make good sense. You are just about to get a good price and a "lump" of money Is put In front of you..cunning!

Hi all,
Yes I have noticed this mystery amount just above and just below in the U/O markets... if this is betfair money then it must not be liable to the 8 second time delay imposed on the rest of us... coz a trader can and will make an error and be several thousand down, or maybe they just don't count this money if it is taken... anybody fancy matching it and seeing if you can wipe it all out... that would give an indication if itis betfair money....
groovy
