The list of potential candidates for new conservative leader would make you weep...
Suella and Priti will surely throw their hats into the ring. Presumably Conservatives will swing to the right now to target Reform voters. Jeremy Hunt is a has-been. Don't know anything about Kemi Badenoch or Tom Tugendhat. Great names though!

Apart from the public sticking 2 fingers up to the Tory record and choosing Labour as their preferred option.
Thhe SNP have been obliterated. Is Indie finally a dead duck?
Glad to see the Lib Dem vote rocketing.
Reform failed compared to the projected seats.
And the Green Party clearly don't convince the general population. 4 seats is not a resounding mandate is it? We may regret that.

With Derek's somewhat freaky obsession with Sunak and the rain, I thought he would enjoy this image...

Well spotted! That was a smart move - he's certainly a man with a plan.

1951 General Election

Conservatives 48% of vote
Labour 48.8% of vote

2024 General Election

Conservative 23.7
Labour 33.7%

We're in a different world, no longer 2 party state

Fragmented, Splintered Electorate

NO WAY is Labour only receiving 3 more % points of vote share than under Jeremy Corbyn in 2019

in 2017 Labour again under Corbyn received 40% of vote share
Shocking prediction by me

   WORST EVER

Yay!!!! Just 9 short of what they were predicted to win. I'm not worried about Reform. They have no agenda or costings that any of the independent financial organisations have even agreed are credible, never mind supported. Their economic strategy is like mega-truss.

You've now got me wondering, was the umbrella for him or to keep her dry? She can't have handed it to him and got drenched herself!

This made me chortle.

What went wrong for the Conservatives?

I don't necessarily agree with the content but it was the headline that made me laugh.

There is no room for navel-gazing here. They f***** up all on their own. Period.

I can answer that question in one word: everything.

From not having an umbrella, D-Day, Partygate, crashing the economy, $100Ms wasted on Rwanda, betting on the GE, can barely think of anything that went right for them.

Had another chemo session this afternoon, (had to watch the Spain match with the sound muted because the guy opposite me was watching Wimbledon and didn't want to know the score!) and I congratulated a nurse when I overheard she's getting promoted. She told me she's being put in charge of the ward, will have more responsibility, possibly more hours but doesn't get paid a penny more!!

Shocking to say the least. I realise Starmer won't have the money to drastically change things quickly but at least his heart's in the right place. Hopefully the better pay/conditions/management will materialise eventually.

And if Labour manages to fix just 40 potholes in the first week, they'll have honoured their manifesto better than the Tories did in five years.

The core issue is that most western economies have painted themselves into a corner after Covid, it was inevitable.

Let millions die and save the economy, or let millions live and trash the economy with high debt.

That really ties your hands and will take years to recover.

If your answer is high taxes to repay the debt you will drain money out of the economy. If you tried and keep costs under control people get pissed at the lack of investment in key services.

It's a catch 22. You just have go hope there isn't a recession as that would be a real curve ball.

It’s interesting when you look at Sweden. Unofficially they let tens of thousands of the elderly die during Covid. But now their economy ranks second out of 132 economies around the globe, 2nd out of 39 economies in Europe and 2nd out of the top 50 income economies. They recovered from covid extremely fast.
