What has Kane done for us in this tournament? I haven't kept count but I suspect we scored more with him off the pitch than when on it. His continued selection to start (and his inevitable substitution) made it seem like he had a pact with Southgate or Southgate thought it would be too disruptive to drop his captain.

Reluctantly, (because I like Kane) I have to agree. You had to concentrate to realise he was on the pitch. For him to score so many for Bayern suggests they have built the strategy around him or he just fits there. It's a bit sad for him. I remember him scoring against LFC. He was like a cobra then. He doesn't seem to be the same player now. But in his pomp he was pretty special. His brother has a lot to answer for in terms of Kane's nil trophy haul, apart from Golden Boot awards and player of the year etc.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 6:45 amWhat has Kane done for us in this tournament? Never liked him as captain, he's first one to bail soon as pens are mentionedgreenmark wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 11:20 amReluctantly, (because I like Kane) I have to agree. Would give it to someone like Rice for this upcoming generation, he actually seems to possess leadership qualities
Rice is an obvious option. Nobody else at the moment looks like captain material. God forbid the next manager loses his mind and makes Pickford the captain.Kai wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 11:53 amNever liked him as captain, he's first one to bail soon as pens are mentionedgreenmark wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 11:20 amReluctantly, (because I like Kane) I have to agree. You never know, Kane may make a resurgence. Seems improbable to me.
But I disagree on the pens. Who else is better? Trent's pen was a thing of beauty, but he seems to be drifting out to the very fringe of selectability. I'm certain if yesterday had gone into the penalties zone he would have been on, and that's the only way he would have got on.
Right Decision.
Could have made 6x more+
only "Hodl" would be a player called Glenn
Englands performance was Hoddle and Doddle

This young generation is only getting started though
Not seen too much emotion from them after FT, so not sure there was much genuine belief there, group looks desperate for new impetus for sure, any decent coach that's big on control & possession would do I feel
Another ever-present question is whether it's even possible to play front foot football after an intense premier league season, there's probably an underlying trend there across football that explains the general lack of quality, players are being pushed to their limits

Let’s be honest, it was rubbish.
It’s very negative playing style, wait for other team to score and then attack. Madrid and Barcelona don’t play like that and obviously the national team doesn’t either.
Kane is past it.
Why were they not getting the ball to Watkins. Pickford seemed to be ignoring him, which Watkins shouted at him several times for. Why was Sacka not passing the ball to Walker who made a number of sprints into the box. Carl Parmer only scored because the ball was deflected off the defender.
The premier league is supposed to be the best in the world. I would argue it’s not and everyone has been sold a lemon.
The game plan for Spain was pathetic and never going to work.
I don’t think England would have played that way if Pep or Klop were in charge.
Southgate should not think about it but go immediately. He was a defender and still portrays that mentality, better to have a manger who was a striker as goals win games. Spanish and South American teams don’t care if their opponents score as their motto is we will score more.
Needs a big clearout of manager, coaching staff and a number of players. Not good enough.

Someone like Roberto Martinez would know exactly how to get the best out of the England squad. He also has the experience of managing Belgium and now Portugal and of course previously in the premiership with Everton (got them to 5th snd in europe).Archery1969 wrote: ↑Mon Jul 15, 2024 2:17 pm

More importantly, his tactical awareness of how the Hispanic region play their football, England would be a threat to any team.
Realistically though, it would seem likely Graham Potter as a stop gap, with Eddie Howe pencilled in for the future.
One thing for sure, it ain't coming home anytime soon (sounds like a song from ole Val Doonican or Roger Whittaker)
