Got this email today:
"We are contacting you today to advise that a business decision has been taken by management and your betting account has been closed. No further business may be executed on your behalf. Any closures under such circumstances are made in accordance with Betfair's Terms & Conditions:

Customer Terms & Conditions Part B, Section 7: "either we or you may suspend or terminate your account at any time, either with or without cause, upon notice (we will use our reasonable endeavours to give such notice to you either before or after suspending or terminating your account)."

This decision is final and will not be overturned. We wish you all the best in the future."

Saying i'm gutted is an understatement. I have been working hard for years on my strategies and just started seeing significant results within the last week or two.

They haven't said why and I can only speculate. The only thing I can think of what happened is they did not like my political views.

Just days ago Betfair Australia opened up a new politics channel on their Discord, encouraging debate around political events such as the upcoming election, which i participated in openly and honestly, and then my account gets closed for no reason given, with no warning.

I was happy for them to open up this new channel. I love discussing politics and theorising about reasons for different odds of political candidates, discussing tactics and strategies that political parties might take to win the election. I will also not hold back on calling out politicians that have done bad things and that continue to create a controversies around themselves. I am passionate about it, partly because I am a veteran and have lost brothers in arms for pointless wars. And partly because I want the best for our country.

If discussing these things was cause enough for Betfair to close my account then I am embarrassed for them. They clearly cannot handle someone challenging their views, and are willing to shut people off for no reason other than to silence them.

Disgusting behaviour if this is the reason. And if they don't reply with any further information this is all I'm left to take away from it.

Wasn't aware BF Australia had their own Discord channels?

Did you have any recent deposits or large losses etc?

Ever used some of their Safer Gambling tools or at other bookies?

The decision may not be as final as it sounds, I've basically gotten the same email years ago but turned out to be a software vendor error. Seen similar with others, don't remember many that stayed closed.

You can have a look at this thread on how others dealt with it, there's some contact emails too should you need them : viewtopic.php?p=352017#p352017

Nope, no large losses. Just steady profits, few dollars a day. Only one deposit in the last two months of $200. No safer gambling tools or anything. I'm far from needing any of those tools

They were really quick to respond with asking me where i want my account balance sent. But didn't answer my email regarding why they actually cancelled my account without warning.

Pretty sure they couldn't, or wouldn't close an account due to your political views. But all companies can choose to not do business with you if they wish, for any reason. Hopefully it's nothing to do with that.

Sadly it doesn't seem difficult to get one's acc suspended/closed these days, we've seen simply changing your email or address can flag stuff up. Others will know more about the Aussie side of BF though.

The hard bit can be finding out why, if you're sure you did nothing wrong you sort of have to escalate and hope your case lands at the right department.

I assume you are still free to chat away on their Discord channel? I would contact their mods there and seek clarification. Not sure how they would directly link your Discord to your Betfair either.

There's female and male Karens all over the place these days. It's not hard to offend someone just by having political stance that doesn't tow the mainstream line 100%. Hell even the political discussion on this forum is more charged than that discord channel. But unfortunately 'business reasons' now include political reasons.

No that was one of the first things they did was remove me from the discord, which is why it is very hard to believe it was due to anything else. You have to verify and link your account to the Discord, so they know exactly who is talking and which account it is linked to.

Wow, that would be a first, surely. Not a great look.

Could still be a coincidence, I would do my due diligence and follow up, maybe throw in a grovelling apology in there too!

Political views is highly speculative and unlikely. In the UK people are having their accounts closed without any explanation.

Betfair reads this forum so we'd all be in serious trouble if that was the case.

Guess we'll always be in the dark if Betfair don't disclose why they shut you down but I'd imagine like many companies their t&c's would include something about bringing the company into disrepute so depends just how 'political' or 'abusive' they considered the messages to be. In the current Betfair climate it's always wise not to rock the boat in the slightest as they seem to ban accounts at the drop of a hat.
