I know these are not strong betting markets, but the 2020/1 Olympics produced quite a lot of discussion. So I thought it's worth starting a thread.

What a really cynical ploy. I wonder who will claim responsibility for this?

Odd that noone has claimed responsiblity.
If you have a grievance would you not go public on social media?
Perhaps someone is trying to show what they can do and are blackmailing the French govt.
It seems bizarre at the moment.

Well I have heard / read that everyone from Putin to the woke loony left activists, to the French Unions are responsible.

I agree that the attack is surprising in both it's sophistication and planning, and the fact that no-one has yet claimed responsibility. It is certainly embarrassing for Macron et al.

I wonder about the lack of public claim. Makes me think this isn't a political event, more criminal. In either case messing with a state is very, very stupid.

I wish track and field, specifically the sprint events had a big market.

Sprinting has always been my hobby and I have second degree contacts to a lot of GB athletes. Genuinely think I would make good profit hah!

If and I say if, Russia was behind this then open question, what should the punishment be ?

If proven then my answer would be forget about the interest being earned on Russian assets seized over Ukraine, around $57 Billion but hand over the entire $450 Billion to Ukraine. That’s never been done before and actually breaks international laws.

But, like I said, if proven, then who cares what Russia thinks or probably hundreds of lawyers.

Opinions ?

The women’s cycling time trial favourite is currently trading lower on the exchange than the best bookie’s price. 😳 Hopefully the market will come to life before the off on Saturday afternoon. Right now, it’s weak and disappointing even in comparison to an average midweek Pro Tour cycling market.

By way of contrast, the men’s 100m market has matched 22k. Not bad this far out. Up about two grand overnight.

I hope Sunak was watching the opening ceremony. That's how it should be done Richi, have a nice-looking blonde standing behind you with an umbrella. :)

Too tired to trade yesterday so handy having the ceremony to watch - great show!!

Amazing how they put it all together, the person in charge of producing it must have nerves of steel.

Did you know, in 1984, "solo" synchronised swimming was introduced to the Olympics, with just one person?

Why are there only 12 women football teams competing in the Olympics and why aren't our girls there?

If you can't even make four groups of four it's a competition not worth having!

Team GB is England, Wales, Scotlan and Northern Irelan. And they couldn't agree I suspect, That is the reason there is no mens football team.

Cheers, I forgot all about that. Just shows how farcical the Olympics has become. It should be mainly for athletics and the traditional sports, not sports that already have a well-established governing body. They'll have horse racing next!

And darts - flipping hell!!

I thought the controversy over the Dutch athlete was about previous drug taking. I now hear he's convicted of raping a 12-year-old girl - and he's allowed to compete. What a flipping sham the Olympics has become!!

Have they absolutely no shame?

It fits into the old debate about professionalising previously amateur sports. Sport is now big business and everyone wants agreements that are in their favour.
But c'est la vie. Is Rugby Union or Olympic sport better for the arrival of professionalism? I would suggest it is.
The alternative would be broadcasters reaping ad revenue and subscriptions but the athletes would get nothing.
