Well I'm always honest with myself Emmerson and I know many of the economic metrics are better than they were in 2010 and if you were being honest with yourself you would know it as well.

Labour said they will reduce fuel bills and start by removing the Winter Fuel Payment from 10 million pensioners.

being honest, my parents are in this bracket and can fortunately afford to be excluded from the winter fuel payment scheme. If their fortunate position allows someone less fortunate to benefit, then the so called utilitarian balance in society is a little bit closer to being restored. i likewise (because i'm CURRENTLY in a fortunate position - we know things can change in a flash) don't have a huge issue in diluting my disposable income if it means that someone who is struggling has got just a little bit more to sustain them that day/week/month...firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 9:26 amLabour said they will reduce fuel bills and start by removing the Winter Fuel Payment from 10 million pensioners.![]()

Jim, I couldn't agree more, I don't need the payment and I'm happy for others more needy to continue to receive it but my comment was not targeted there! All I was saying is to remove the WFP does not sit side by side with the pre-election promise of "we will reduce your heating bill".jimibt wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 9:35 ambeing honest, my parents are in this bracket and can fortunately afford to be excluded from the winter fuel payment scheme. This policy did annoy me. But they also said they will actively find people that are entitled to pension credit but aren't claiming it. That would restore the fuel payment to those most in need. I don't know how else you focus it where it's needed. Pension credit is means-tested. So it's a relatively easy solution.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 9:48 amJim, I couldn't agree more, I don't need the payment and I'm happy for others more needy to continue to receive it but my comment was not targeted there! But what about those marginally above the pension credit threshold? They are still in poverty and £300 is a big deal down there.
Feel sorry for the mugs that voted in Truss (you weren't one of them were you?). Can you imagine the shame.firlandsfarm wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 8:14 am[I feel sorry for the mugs who fell for it and voted for them

Until recently being a politican meant how to avoid lying. I would cite Michael Howard's interview with Paxman

Skip forward to 4minutes in.
He knew if he told the truth he was knackered but throughout that exchange he didn't lie.
Recent years it seems lying is based on whether they think they'll get challenged.
Honesty isn't about not lying. It's about telling the truth when obliged to do so, so on that basis I would say he's not being honest.greenmark wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:12 amUntil recently being a politican meant how to avoid lying. I would cite Michael Howard's interview with Paxman

Of course he's squirming throughout that exchange. But he didn't lie, he simply refused to answer a question that would have been damning if he had.Derek27 wrote: ↑Wed Jul 31, 2024 11:35 amHonesty isn't about not lying. Much as i disliked Howard. Compare him to Johnson and he looks like a pinnacle of honesty.

I suspect someone is moving their profits from currencies to FTSE and Gold.

Traditionally summer is when Blighty would suffer from urban unrest. I hope what's going on at moment dies out because it's quite worrying and it goes beyond party politics.
