I love the term, "error of judgement". My idea of an error of judgement is booking food for 30 people and only 15 turn up. you need to do a google on Patrick Harrington. He was a leading light in the National Front, However, in the late 80's he was one of the trailblazers that voted to abolish the NF. He has since gone on to form an alliance called Third Way. This group are all about finding ways to harmonize disparate ideologies on ALL sides and looking for ways to include community to further those associations.

Third Way is a think-tank dedicated to creating a society based on Justice, Community and Individual freedom against one that is based on Greed, Globalisation and Tyranny.

Third Way stands against all forms of social injustice, racism and religious bigotry. Third Way is for everyone. We promote positive ideas and advocate Direct Democracy along Swiss lines using referenda and citizens’ initiatives.

Quite an inspirational character (and organisation), but had you gone back xx years, you would have assumed him to be a far right bigot.

When the riots stop, there needs to be some tough hard discussions around immigration. If not then there will be a festering undercurrent within certain communities. It wont go away as some politicians hope.

Some communities are angry that migrants are being house in hotels, when those are being told no accommodation and to travel elsewhere. ITV did a 3 week documentary on it. One young girl aged 24 with 2 children was evicted, Croydon council told her she would have better luck in Wales. Then Croydon council housed 150 asylum applicants in a Marriott Hotel. Was that young girl angry, hell yes, who wouldn’t be. I doubt anyone on this forum would have been happy either.

Someone needs to fix it asap. Forget about affordable housing. Start building social housing asap, if building companies don’t like it then tell them to fuck if and impose fines. The UK needs 1 million social properties each year until pre 1980 stocks are replenished. That’s around 6 million houses/flats.

Denmark started a trial of building 2 bed properties for the equivalent of £47,000. Not everyone’s cup of tea visually but it’s a modern well insulated roof over your head. So fuck building £200,000 to £4 million houses, that’s greed from property developers.

Now, get building GB, in the right flipping way.

yeah. with only 5 weeks since the election and the new wallpaper not yet dry, i think some slack is in order. however, i do agree that there has to be some leadership shown on taking the country forward after recent riots and obviously with parliament being in recess, that may appear like intransigence if nothing is forthcoming.

It doesn’t take long to arrange a meeting with UK house builders and look at the Denmark model. Then go on national TV, Sunday night, explain what they going todo to make sure everyone has a roof over their head, within x timeframe and it’s put into law so subsequent governments cannot reverse it. Sir Keir is a lawyer by trade, he knows to make it an un breakable commitment.

There are 400 Labour MPS, 30 cabinet ministers and thousands in the civil service to call upon.

My first job paid £10,300 and I bought a 2 bed home for £42,000. So just over 4:1 ratio. The average house price in the UK now is £282,000 but the average salary is £34,000 which is 8:1 ratio. That’s double given wage and house price increases. Yes that was 35 years ago but the comparisons are equal in terms of wage/house price growth. You could argue that wages have not kept up but the economy would have had to be +8% every year since. No country ever has achieved that in the last 35 years, nowhere near.

The term affordable housing is bollocks and it currently only accounts for 15% of new housing stock overall.

[edit] - as an aside. almost every house we ever bought (4 in 30 years) and then sold, we could never afford to buy back. such has been the prevailing trend for the past 10-20 years. our 1st house in Charlton (SE London), we bought for £73k in 1994. Same house today, £675k!!
