I'll be surprised if some of them don't get mistakenly jailed, surely that can't happen can itArchery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:39 pmYou only ever serve around half your sentence unless a Judge gives a minimum term.
If it’s less than 3 years then most are sent to open prisons after serving 1/3 of there sentences.
I’m actually surprised that some of these rioters are not getting much more severe sentences of at least 5 years.

As far as I am aware, so far, there all pleading guilty, hence the speed of court cases and convictions. If one or more of them pleaded not guilty then cases would go on for months. But you run the risk doing that. Usually, pleading guilty means your sentence is 1/3 less. Unless you have committed murder or rape. That’s why so many of those plead not guilty as it’s not going to make much difference apart from wasting £££££ etc.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:50 pmI'll be surprised if some of them don't get mistakenly jailed, surely that can't happen can itArchery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:39 pmYou only ever serve around half your sentence unless a Judge gives a minimum term.

When the police/CPS have 500 people to charge, they can afford to target the ones with overwhelming video evidence against them. So far, nobody has claimed the rioters in the footage was his twin brother.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:50 pmI'll be surprised if some of them don't get mistakenly jailed, surely that can't happen can itArchery1969 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 3:39 pmYou only ever serve around half your sentence unless a Judge gives a minimum term.

I was very worried about the country a few days ago and with that megalomaniac goading our PM and saying civil war is inveitable, the danger now seems to have passed. Though underlying issues of it will have to be addressed somehow or someway or it will happen again.

As I said the Labour Manifesto does address all of the concerns of the protesters. Not the concerns of the rioters but they're a bunch of (serial) violent thugs.
But I am crossing everything that Labour can begin to heal the country. What a challenge! But you shouldn't be in politics if you don't want a challenge.

I see where you are coming from with that - you'll need a judge to sort that one outcould they, or couldn't they. are they morally obliged to oblige OR are they legally exempt from morally obliging??

The politicians are certainly making it difficult as they don't seem to be able to come up with any solutions or set any bars for the public to measure against.difficult questions

No they couldn't, but at least they're not stupid enough to claim they can like the last government.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:21 pmCould Labour 'stop the boats' - best of luck with that one

The Tories created the slogan stop the boats. It's now adopted by far-right thugs, and not one Conservative politician has called it out!

I absolutely and totally agree with you for once.No they couldn't
But how do you know that ?
Sunak was asked for a definition of "stop the boats". He refused to give one, you haven't either, so I would take the literal meaning, that is, not a single migrant crosses the channel in a boat. I can't see a 30-foot-high wall being built on either side of the channel. Even if they called in the navy to blow them out of the water, a few would still get through.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 11:31 pmDerek27 wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 11:20 pmNo they couldn't, but at least they're not stupid enough to claim they can like the last government.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Fri Aug 09, 2024 9:21 pmCould Labour 'stop the boats' - best of luck with that one
