UK forces didn’t shoot down any missiles as Typhoon jets are not equipped to track ballistic missiles. They were only in the air to give morale support.greenmark wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 12:14 amOh flipping heck.
"UK military jets involved in Israel defence.
In just two sentences on Tuesday night Defence Secretary John Healey confirmed that UK armed forces have again been involved in supporting Israel in the conflict in the Middle East.
"British forces have this evening played their part in attempts to prevent further escalation,” Healey said, adding: “I want to thank all British personnel involved in the operation for their courage and professionalism.”
I hope the govt know what they're doing there.
Bit early to get involved in a conflict to boost their ratings.

Looks like Israel is going to hit Iran’s nuclear power stations.
The reason that might be true is Joe Joe just announced he and US forces won’t support or take part.
If Israel does then look to what Turkey might do. The later is ranked 8th in the world militarily with the former ranked 17th.
Plus I not 100% sure what happens if a NATO member (Turkey) goes to war with a NATO special status non member (Israel)
Anyone know ?

I don't know why they are there. Certainly not active. Perhaps part of a reconnaissance or comms matrix. You'd know better than me. But definitely not firing weapons. Still is involvement that Iran et al might construe as active.Archery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 6:37 pmUK forces didn’t shoot down any missiles as Typhoon jets are not equipped to track ballistic missiles. Our involvement is not something we get to vote on. As pointed out the govt is simply following the policy (that they agreed to) of their predecessors.

Long standing agreement with the USA going back to when the US came to our aid during WW2. Basically, regardless of UK government, if USA says jump, the UK does and always will.
The UK was once an influential global player both militarily and economically. Unfortunately, those days are long gone.
UK can’t survive without the USA and/or the EU.
With everything that has been said about China being dangerous, why do you think that Rachael Reeves is planning a trip to Beijing ?
How can the UK want trade deals with China, when if/they invade Taiwan
Sir Keir knows he has to stand with the USA, regardless of policy or who the president is. If it’s Trump, in public they will both get on but behind the scenes, the UK will be down the pecking order on any deals. But then don’t forget Obama said the same when he was president too.
Like I said, the UK is no longer a big player in the international stage. Those days are gone, unfortunately.

How can the UK want trade deals with China, when if/they invade Taiwan? The USA will block any trade deal by threatening the UK behind closed doors.

Its actually worse than being the so called 51st state. Its about being a puppet to the USA under their rules, always has been since Churchill begged them for help. The only time the USA bent the rules was in 1982. At the time they were friends of both Argentina and the UK.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 10:31 pm51st StateArchery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 10:12 pmYou can’t blame Labour or the Conservatives.greenmark wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 9:22 pm

I wont mention her name as she is not popular in some circles. But she stood her ground, the US president was rather taken by her and after the war it came to light that he allowed UK fighter jets to refuel on US aircraft carriers. Argentina was not impressed, obviously.
But since then, in public, both sides go on and on and on about the special relationship. Its basically BS. If it was true then there would be the biggest global trade deal in UK history. Unfortunately, its never going to happen. Carter, Reagan, Bush junior, Bush senior, Clinton, Obama, Trump and Biden all said NO.
PS. The chancellor is going to China and the PM is going to Brussels, why ?, basically, desperation.

Harris won’t help the UK either, nor will China or the EU without major concessions.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 11:05 pmMight be better if Farage and Trump become PM'sArchery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 02, 2024 10:52 pmIts actually worse than being the so called 51st state. From the pictures I've seen coming out of Beirut a bunker might not be sufficient.
You might need to build a pyramid

I had a bunker in the UK. But since moving to Canada, don’t really need one. Russia or whoever only has enough nukes to take out all western military or infrastructure sites. I now live about 40 miles from any of those.
In the UK your be safe if you can make it to Inverness in about 3 minutes. If not then your be in the blast zone, killed instantly or if really unlucky in the aftershock zone. If you manage to survive those then your need to fight your way to safety while killing others for food, water and shelter before the radiation kills you over weeks or months etc.
