"Why is it important to remind people that hostages are still being held?

A particularly stupid question, even by Sky News standards!
I very much suspect they are all now dead. Most of which probably killed by Israel forces via bombing from overhead or by blowing tunnels. The IDF ground forces aleady said they didnt search all underground tunnels in Gaza or in Lebanon before blowing them. They would have used certain incendiary devices which suck and consume all available oxygen out. Anyone in one of those tunnels would have stood no chance. However, you may find that a certain number were smuggled out to Iran, Syria or Iraq. But I imagine their ongoing torture means their probably better off being dead, something, if still alive, they would probably wish for etc.
Hamas's 'Gaza metro bigger than the London Underground' where 101 hostages still remain
You taking Hamas's word for it that they still alive ?

Making threats is one thing, the reality is somewhat different. Who do you want to have in your corner Iran or USA?
Anyone expecting Arab nations to rise up and fall in behind Hmas or Hezbollah are mistaken IMO. Most Arab nations don't like either or Iran they won't lift a finger.
Sure Hamas leadership is hiding in Qatar but Qatar are neutral and are weak militarily.

The big issues are the reletntless ferocity of Israel's actions and the utter lack of any dialogue to stop the slaughter of so many innocents.
It's really exposiing how utterly stubborn Hamas and Hezbollah are. They could stop this in a blink. Surrender, negotiate, be part of the rebuild. But no. Play into Israel's hands by giving them the excuse to continue.
Hamas have already lost. It's over. Hezbollah will be next.

Only if Israel agree to a ceasefire in Gaza

I think Israel would if they thought representations from Hamas were genuine. That looks terribly unlikely.
My view is Israel are hunting down every Hamas fighter. Until Israel is stopped by US et al diplomacy or surrender of Hamas.

It's staggering to read that 60% of Gaza has been destroyed and will need to be rebuilt.

NATO member Turkey 🇹🇷 is among the world's sharpest critics of what it calls Israel's illegal and reckless wars with armed groups Hamas and Hezbollah

Erdogan said Benjamin Netanyahu was acting out his dream of a "utopia" and "promised land" for Israel.

Yeah, I wouldn’t be surprised if Turkey got involved, which if it did would cause havoc for the west and NATO.

Exclusive-Gulf states must not allow use of airspace against Iran, Iranian official says 😱

"It also made clear that any assistance to Israel, such as allowing the use of a regional country’s airspace for actions against Iran, is unacceptable."

Iran made it clear that any action by a Persian Gulf country against Tehran, whether through the use of airspace or military bases, will be regarded by Tehran as an action taken by the entire group, and Tehran will respond accordingly," the senior Iranian official told Reuters.

Iran has not threatened to attack Gulf oil facilities but has previously warned that if "Israel supporters" intervene directly their interests in the region would be targeted.

Saudi Arabia has been wary of an Iranian strike on its oil facilities since a 2019 attack on its key refinery at Abqaiq briefly shut down more than 5% of global oil supply. Iran denied involvement.

A Western diplomat in the Gulf said that during Thursday's Gulf-Iran meeting in Doha, Iran made clear that Tehran had called for regional unity in the face of an Israeli attack and that it considered neutrality of Gulf states a bare minimum.

The diplomat said Iran had made clear that Tehran would keep a close eye on how each Gulf country responded in the case of an Israeli attack, and also how U.S. bases housed in their countries were used.

Bahrain, Kuwait, Qatar, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates all host U.S. military facilities or troops

Iran supplies 25% of global oil, if Israel bombs their oil refineries then you can expect your petrol prices and heating to go through the roof.

The world might have no choice but to start buying Russian oil again.

How mad would that be!!!!

The other suppliers would step in. They know oil is going to become redundant and being friendly with the West and it's tech is sensible. Iran's regime are stuck in the middle ages. If you're a Sheikdom why would you deal with Iran?

They might well step in, at a price, knowing there is no other option. Meaning higher prices for everyone before 2035.

Don't forget, Turkey has the 2nd largest military force within NATO and it also has relations with Lebanon, Gaza and Iran.

Source: FDD - 07/10/2024

President Recep Tayyip Erdogan claimed that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin’s Netanyahu government harbored ambitions that include the capture of Anatolia as part of “Greater Israel,” warning of a war between the two states. While predictions of Israeli aggression toward Turkey are not rooted in reality, they could indicate Ankara’s willingness to escalate its involvement in regional violence against Israel.

Addressing the opening ceremony of Turkey’s new parliamentary session, Erdogan remarked, “The Israeli leadership acting with the delirium of the promised land and with a purely religious fanaticism, will set its sights on our homeland after Palestine and Lebanon.”
