The average salary for a London Underground train driver is around £66,698 per year, which is 157% higher than the UK national average.
Comparisons:
- The average Paris metro driver salary converted from € to £ is £46,619.
- The average New York subway driver salary converted from $ to £ is £51,188.
So, if you want to drive trains underground then best move to the UK as with the next pay deal you will earn £70,000 +
Same situation with Nursing and Doctors, learn your trade in your home country and then fcuk off to pastures new and dont look back.

You'd be lucky to be represented by such a strong union. Of course their actions screw up many lives. But the employers also carry the blame.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 3:15 pmGood job we've got Labour/Sadiq - they will quickly sort it out before Xmasjamesedwards wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 3:01 pmJust give them all a 22% pay rise. Don't worry, overground/underground train drivers wont exist within 10 years time
The docklands light railway has been operating automated since 1987, its only a matter of time before the above are made redundant.
But then again, the estimate is that between 2024 - 2030 around 30% of current jobs will be made redundant and replaced by AI in some way. This will cause more people seeking asylum, jobs and housing outside of their native countries. Again, the estimates are that by 2050, governments will have to pay the majority of people to stay at home and do nothing. Not sure how thats going to work exactly, how will the salary rate be calculated etc, maybe ask Elon Musk if he is still around ?
Also, what will be the point of going to school or university. You will probably have a phone watch that can cook, drive your car, order a drink, translate a 100 languages, talk for you and zap an intruder. I guess your still going to need someone to wipe your backside ?

That’s why unions have been praying for Labour to be in government. I’m not begrudging Nurses, Junior Doctors or the Armed Forces getting a good salary. But train drivers of any shape or form shot get a pay cut.ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 6:04 pmThe day after the budget and the run-up to Xmas - didn't see that one comingArchery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 4:46 pmThe RMT union confirms members will also go on strike in November after rejecting the latest pay offers. O wait, the Armed Forces can’t strike or be a member of any union. No wonder, the UK armed forces are going to drop below 70,000. Last time that happened was just before the napoleonic war(s). But, can’t blame them, who in the right mind would want to serve their country now. O wait, Israel’s do, o wait, that’s national service with no end date. Makes one think, was Sunak so wrong on that point. The way the world is going, Labour might not have any choice but to do the unthinkable and bring in national service.

Thats quite a statement. And for the record I don't agree with it. Unions and management negotiate. Neither unions nor management unilaterally decide who gets a rise. But there's no doubt the public are losing patience with both parties screwing up their lives.

The Unions don't have to negotiate now though as they know they have Labour by the balls and no doubt they will step in and give them 8% etc.greenmark wrote: ↑Fri Oct 18, 2024 9:01 am“No trade union can accept any pay proposal where management decide which of our members gets a pay rise and those who do not.”ForFolksSake wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 6:04 pmThe day after the budget and the run-up to Xmas - didn't see that one comingArchery1969 wrote: ↑Wed Oct 16, 2024 4:46 pmThe RMT union confirms members will also go on strike in November after rejecting the latest pay offers. These public sector pay deals are probably going to increase well above inflation for the next 4 years. Just have to hope that the governments wish to increase the economy delivers otherwise the next government will be sadled with unsustainable public sector costs. And the only way out of that is mass redundancies.

Whelan and Lynch have got the Labour Gov by the short and curlies, really. They know they'll be given everything they ask for. I'd vote for that. My waste and recycle guys are brilliant. Rain or searing heat or snow and ice. Always there. And always say hello.
