Two potential new champions face off in the big one (the Cox plate), boom 3-year old Australian 'Helmet' and top-class NZ raider 'Jimmy Choux'. In the same race there are also several Melbourne Cup contenders in action.
You can see last years Melbourne Cup winner (the French horse 'Americain'), in action in the Moonee Valley Cup. Could be a good guide to its chances this year.
Champion sprinter 'Black Caviar' is back in action also, and aiming for its 15th straight win.

Your right Zenyatta. Great days racing Australia tomorrow. 3Yo's have a good place record in recent years in the Cox Plate given the WFA structure of the event. On this alone, Helmet has to be a great chance - assuming he can find the fence early in the first furlong. If he can find the fence relatively easy (looks like this may well be the case with the scrathing of Descarado), may make a good trade for those that trade the in-play markets. Will be in it for a long way. Amercain also presents value, albeit from a negative viewpoint. Moonee Valley is a tricky course for any horse, not the least those first up from Europe. Tight turning, and from barrier 3, there is a risk that he may get buried back in the field. With concussion plates on for the first time, not sure wether the Valley is right for him. Think it might be a pre-off Swing Trade for me - current price 3.25 way to short for mine (been plenty wrong before though !). As for Black Caviar, is always good to see a champion, so hoping things go as planned. Think the bet here is whether Here De Angels behaves itself at the barrier.

Good points. Yes, for the Cox Plate, 'Helmet' broke the track record last start, and has the highest timeform rating of any horse to contest the race in a long time - you would think that the early-line odds of 3.45 are too long, it should steam in, possibly all the way to 3.00 pre-race.
I also agree with what you say about 'Americain', it has no form on the board, it hasn't raced at the track and it doesn't have the ground it likes either, a good lay prospect. Might be a good idea to place Melbourne Cup Ante-post bets before it races, in anticipation of its odds blowing out and the prices of other horses coming in for the Melbourne Cup.

I feel like moving to Australia for their racing, the way they treat it as a being leisure pursuit to be enjoyed, which is seriously lacking in English racing. The quality of racing is brilliant. The racing coverage by Sky Sports radio is exceptional and something that we should have here (RP, BF whoever please take note). There are so many reasons why racing down under is better. Only down side is that the volume on Betfair is high mainly on big races.
I wondered if I was viewing it through rose tinted specs, but I have to say I agree. It seems to be run so much better in Aus. On the big races horses are ponied to the start and loose horses are caught very quickly. Nearly always go off to post time and decisions are made quickly and confidently. Maybe they are better funded, I don't know?
