I checked my database and did some analysis for the best performances in the top tier of English Football for the last 50 years. Includes all games played from start of 1961-62 season to today (Sunday, 23 Oct 2011).
Only ten teams have won more games than they have lost during their period in the top division.
Only two teams have been in the top tier for all of the last 50 years.
All ten have been champions of England - 7 out of 10 made the final of the European Cup/Champions League (4 winners).
