My final thoughts on this subject is that members of the armed forces should be exempt from income tax.

Why ?

1. They not allowed by law to strike.
2. They not allowed by law to be a member of a union.
3. Their starting salaries are well below a policeman, fireman, doctor.
4. They are effectively on call 24/7.
5. They have to relocate around the UK and overseas with only 28 days notice.
6. They are restricted as to when they can take holiday leave.
7. Compensation for trauma, loss of limb(s) or life is restricted by parliament.
8. When under fire they’re dammed if they do and dammed if they don’t.
9. When being made redundant their financial package is less than other civil servants.

🙌
You are about right there Archery and don't forget their partners. When they say goodbye they don't know if they will return! Truth be known we treat our military disgracefully, illegal immigrants are treated better by Governments.

I'd vote for that...

And don't forget the risk of death in environments where life expectancy can be just a couple of hours to protect others....

I can understand recruitment and retention is a problem.

But there is a simple answer, those in Nepal, every year come down from the mountains to get picked for the British Army. Very few make it. One problem is many are just 13 years old. So, pick as many as possible, put them through school with a wage and accommodation. Then, if they wish, to the armed forces. I would say 99.9% would still want to wear the famous badge and serve the UK. Becoming a Gurkha in the British Army means a great deal to them, family and friends. I been in many firefights with Gurkhas by my side, many thought they were stupid, mad or just nuts.

Trust me, they’re just extremely brave and never complain.

The only time they use to get the hump was when they wanted permission to fix bayonets and it was almost always denied.

I don’t know any reasonable person who would argue not to allow them to come to the UK to fight for now king and country.

One day, you might be glad there are many of them ready to defend you, friends and family.

In 2023, 11500 applied, the British Army could only pick 340 due to financial constraints. 😔

Could be a fun GE next time around for the UK. Personally, I don’t think Labour are going to get a chance for their 10 year plan for the NHS and Housing to come to fruition.

Let's hope they get relegated to the Conference league - same as the Tories - both pile of 💩

The WASPI women can certainly see the trail of hypocrisy that runs through this Government. It's becoming clearer and clearer that they would say and promise anything to win the election and do differently once they had fraudulently acquired power.

EDIT: Just found Angelor Raynor's pre 2019 election speech ...

"The government failed the women who were born in the 1950s, they stole their pension, that contract, that agreement that they thought they had and then accelerated it so that those women didn’t have the chance to prepare for that. We said we’ll right that injustice. And within the five years of the Labour government, we will compensate them for the money that they’ve lost.

This is their money that they’ve had stolen off them and it’s completely unacceptable. And any government, any government, should act responsibly to these women who have looked after their children through that period. They’re often looking after elderly relatives now, and they’re a part of our society that have felt really unjust by the way they’ve been treated. And it’s absolutely right that we deal with this issue."

I was going to edit out any padding but there is none, it's all claim and fact! If you want a laugh, listen to Kay Burley tearing Rushanara Ali apart on Sky News this morning. As far as she is concerned those now in Government never said those things and therefore have not deceived the WASPI's!

The bit that confused me was that a decision to compensate them was made 24 months ago (a least) by the last conservative government.

Why didn't they?

The obvious answer is no money & no reserve set up, so chuck it into the long grass.

But yes, another own goal. The WASPI women I know will not forgive this one...

Edit: Looks like I got that wrong. The decision not to pay was made in March...

"When the ombudsman's report was released in March, it said the government had “clearly indicated that it will refuse to comply” with its call for compensation.

"What DWP (The Department for Work and Pensions) has told us during this investigation leads us to strongly doubt it will provide a remedy," it said then of the former Conservative government's intention to pay compensation.

The ombudsman said it was taking the "rare but necessary step" of asking Parliament to intervene, given the scale of the impact of the DWP's "maladministration".

The DWP listed reasons as to why it could not remedy the situation, including "the costs involved, the time it would take, the amount of resource it would involve, and the negative impact delivering a remedy would have on it being able to maintain other services", the report said."

The government can be forgiven for not compensating as there is no money but they shouldn’t be forgiven for making ‘the right sounds’ during their time in opposition.

Rayner in particular seemed quite vocal at the time. It’s such a large swathe of the electorate to alienate

The reason the government cant pay the WASPI's is partly due to the following:

1. They about to sack/redundant 10,000 civil servants. Strange as they in the past condemed the Tory's for doing so.
2. Reduce the armed forces personnel by 14,000. Strange as they in the past condemed the Tory's for doing so.
3. Unemployment is increasing. No surprise as they were warned by the CBI and OBR that this was likely due to their last budget.
4. Those on sickness benefits is increasing.
5. Back dating a universal pay settlement to 5.9 million public sector workers. No surprise they need to get rid of allot of them.
6. A so called black hole left by the previous government. Although the exact figure is disputed by the OBR.
7. More school leavers going into further education. Thats fine but they not earning and paying TAX/NI.

Point 2 above is rather stupid given the state of the world, you cant really now call the UK as having an army. That stopped once it fell below 100,000. It will now drop to below 70,000. Rather like Eire, a standing/Home/Dads army. Eire gets away with it because its part of the EU and an agreement with the UK to patrol their shores using the Royal Navy.

The UK is on a very slippery slope....

I hope Musk gives Reform the 78 million and blows Labour and Tory's out the water. Like most now I've had enough of the pair or them along with their stranglehold over politics. They've both failed and both find magic money trees for foreigners and country's abroad while British people pay and/or suffer.

I can't wait to see the bedwetters go into meltdown if Musk drops the money.

Bedwetters be wetting because Farage’s sole ambition in life was Brexit which was a deliberate act of self harm.
