I've been given a near impossible target for free electricity this week, so I'll have to use extra electricity between 4 and 7pm until my target is back to normal!

Quite a self-defeating scheme.

Just got a Christmas present from EDF, eight hours of free electricity on Christmas day ... between 8:00 and 16:00!

flipping lot of use that is, I'll be in bed most of that time. Christmas dinner, if I decide to cook one, won't be until after four!

Migrants have been crossing the English Channel in small boats on Christmas Day.

Several boats were seen making the dangerous journey from France on Wednesday morning, with more expected to follow over the course of the day.

How come migrants can cross the channel on Xmas day and all public transport in the UK is cancelled today and tomorrow..

Quarter of council tax raised is spent on ‘unjustifiably generous’ staff pensions.

The public sector is so inefficient. Then people wonder why services get outsourced.

Every Wednesday I do battle with Asda online in an effort to secure groceries for the following week. If there’s a worse website on the planet I’ve yet to discover it.

Maybe related to:

"English councils saw big cuts to their funding during the 2010s, with spending on some services down between 40% and 70% over the decade." ?

==> that would defo push up relative cost of pension provision (and everything else)..

I'm actually surprised anyone can tell as an awful lot of English councils have been unable to provide audited accounts for years... (and avoided due scrutiny).

Wouldn't be surprised if the really outrageous stuff is hidden away in those (unaudited) accounts. e.g. awarded enhanced pensions as leaving early and voted for by folk taking over (like in Glasgow).

Farage calls for crackdown on public sector pension ‘Ponzi scheme’

The Reform UK leader warned gold-plated public pensions are the “biggest ticking time bomb” in government finances and that the disparity with those in the private sector amounted to “pensions apartheid”. 💣

And his solution is: "have a debate in parliament"...

Usual populist drivel from him... What about a solution?
