Hello All,

I am wondering if anyone is running BA on Zorin OS (Linux)?
And if so, might I ask for a little help in getting it running please?
Can anyone direct me toward online instructions for installation with PlayonLinux? As I am quite new to Linux I think I am probably making some schoolboy error during the process :)

Thanks in advance!

I run Bet Angel in Windows 7 in a virtual machine in Linux (Manjaro and Salix)
The virtual machine is VirtualBox and I assume there is a package available for Zorin OS.
The Windows 7 is an official Microsoft virtual machine trial package in connection with Internet Explorer. It lasts 90 days but you can rearm it several times and/or reinstall...

I initially tried PlayonLinux and Wine but they were pretty much pointless exercises.

Thanks Dallas.

As with Mac OS, BA can be run within wine, parallels, virtual machine of some sort etc?
Zorin OS comes with Wine, Winetricks and Play on Linux as standard, and in theory it should be possible to run BA.
So far, I have an installation on a virtual drive with PoL, looks good. When i try to Run, i have an error message Re Wine, which is causing BA to crash.
I'm new to Linux :) and i think i have made an error in configuring Wine so will faff about with it until I either succeed or at least know why i cannot make it work.
There's a story behind this.... I am a Mac user (Desktop & iPad) I travel a fair bit and want to be able to take BA with me and so bought a used laptop for the purpose. It came with Windows 8.1 Pro. First thing i did was have a good poke about and found a Hacktool lurking in there. After a fresh install, the activation keys didn't work  So I installed Zorin OS
For trading, i am awaiting delivery of a new (windows) laptop for ease of use, but i thought it would be good to see if/how BA performs in Linux.... I love a challenge :)

Thanks Knome.

I will try VirtualBox (or equivalent) for Zorin OS Although i have enjoyed playing with PoL and Wine I agree, they are not much use in this situation.

Let us know how you get on.

Hadn't thought about security issues with second-hand laptops. Something to be aware of.

A screenshot of my ManjaroLinux/VirtualBox/Windows7/BetAngel setup...

Image

You can run it Full-Screen but I prefer to have my Linux panel showing down the right hand side.

Happily, I have some progress to report Euler!

As I have not managed to connect to BetFair yet (BF site saying login problems at present) I am not going to post the name of the software or method used - But am happy to do so if it will help others and Mods are ok with it.
Long story short... I found a free trial version of Wine based software, works on Linux and Mac and has a user friendly interface. After a fairly painless install (following the detailed Linux Terminal instructions provided) I was able to install & run Bet Angel. Well, to the registration process page at least... :) So far so good.
I will try to complete the registration process later today and report back.

Thanks for the screenshot Knome, it looks great :) I also like the panel on the right hand side, seems less cluttered somehow.

Hi All,

I did get a little further with Zorin..... However an error is reported with the windows .NET Framework. I was able to get as far as activating my free trial on Friday, sadly I couldn't sign into Betfair.
On a happier note, my new laptop arrived today and as expected Bet Angel Installed and running no problem :D So it's off to practice mode I go!

This thread is seven years old and there have been a lot of developments over that time. With Windows 10 support ending this year and Windows 11 becoming nothing less than full-on spyware prior to moving to a full-on subscription model, I expect more and more people will be ditching Microsoft entirely. I have myself fully migrated to Zorin OS 17 and have had to allow my BetAngel subscription to lapse (BA is the ONLY irreplaceable software I've lost from the migration).

What is the current situation vis a vis running BA on Linux?

Ditto.

That said, I buy most things used but tend to stay away from second hand electronics and toilet roll.

Since my last question was hijacked by someone replying to a near eight-year old post I'll repeat it.

I actually got this working in Zorin yesterday using Wine. Works OK from the limited testing I did. Wasn't much fun getting it to work, but after some trial and error, I got there in the end. I recommend using a 32-bit prefix for Wine, installing .NET 4.6.2 using winetricks, then installing BetAngel.
