Was planning to take my Dad to watch some Greyhounds recently. Changed my mind when I saw the reviews saying that on a Saturday night there wasn't even 15 spectators. Been once before and assumed it was just because it was a Tuesday evening the place was so depressing

We used to do work, social club trips to Wimbledon about 25 years ago, on a weeknight. Chicken in a basket and a fun night of betting. Used to be quite busy. Sad it's gone that way. I'm guessing affordability\access to online bettiing - people can't even afford to go to the pub much these days

It's only the bigger racing events like the Greyhound Derby and the early rounds that garner any interest, then it depends on where you live.

Towcester is a long trek from where I am, the nearest track is over 112 miles away. I used to walk to Wembley Stadium greyhounds when I was in my late teens, and the crowds then, were not massive, only on the special nights like the St Leger over 655 metres. In those days the Derby was held at White City, that was a good atmosphere most nights.

The ole chicken in the basket...Wimbledon picked up the slack, staging the Derby, successfully, between 1985 ---> 2016 until a 600 apartment block was considered a more urgent requirement, along with plans for a new football stadium.

Some tracks are now owned by bookmakers, Hill, Corals and Ladbrokes, so that's likely saved them from an early demise.

On the overview, sorted by the Last 3 average ratings, it's been fairly clear throughout, that Bockos Diamond has maintained the speed and consistency. In the semi-final, we saw what he could do when back in T6, although I had some doubts after it's previous run from T5.

De Lahdedah has shown up well, it's last couple of runs demonstrating he'll run another good race in the final. If he manages to break like he did in last years final, who knows how it could end up, but Sole Mio might trap well too.

Cheap Sandwiches is the one that has indicated improvement compared to earlier runs, and that included twice beaten in T5 by Bockos Diamond in T6. On collateral form, the outcome is more than likely to happen again, but CS could take advantage it B.D. fails to trap.

The value indicates T5 Cheap Sandwiches @ 5/1+. As already said, there is improvement recently. and will need to improve again on the night, and have T6 Bockos Diamond not ping out like he did in the Semis. T6 B.D. is the obvious choice but not @ Even money.

Which one of T2 Sole Mio and T3 De Lahdedah to lead is not clear, probably S.M, but D.L has shown enough trackcraft to go past off the 4th bend. D.L trapped well in last years final, so has seen it all before, so that's in his favour.

Was Doncaster or Kinsley. One of the reviews said they put a bet on to find out they were only betting against the 3 other people there. Looked on Google images at the interior of those places too. It's strange as the websites still advertised some great Saturday night dining experience

Forgot I've been twice actually , Doncaster and Poole. Poole was much more of a stadium with a big interior, though was a random daytime so no idea if anyone shows up on a Saturday night

In the end went to Pontefract horse races on a Monday evening. Would usually go Ripon or wetherby on a weekend .Was pleasantly surprised by Pontefract having never been. Really nice area in the cheaper grandstand and a good turnout. Though meant an awful drive through the middle of Bradford which was stressful

I went through Bradford on the way to the Dales in my camper a few months ago. If you want to feel better about your life choices, go through Bradford on a rainy, Monday morning in February :D

Indeed. I understand that the demographic has changed somewhat in recent decades. And not for the better.

The driving really bugs me. I thought it was a myth that driving is worse in Bradford than elsewhere. But I'm constantly on edge waiting for someone to drive into the back of me, got tailgated constantly despite traffic and speed cameras preventing me going any faster even if I wanted to. Glad I've moved away to the south west. Much improved quality of life, much less stress.
