Hi guys,

Just curious, but do you guys run any automation on the AUS or US markets?

I'm sure there opportunity to grab some coin out of both of these, but they most certainly are more trickier

I've been on Aus markets for decades now. But only focus on the major US meetings where the start times are predictable.

Beware additional cost of doing business in Aus races. Commission is much higher, plus there is a turnover charge for all NSW races which can be very costly, especially if you green up.

9. Turnover Charge
9.1 This section only applies to the Betfair Exchange.

9.2 In addition to the other charges detailed above a very small number of our customers who engage with the Betting Exchange in a particular way on ˜turnover charge markets (as defined below) will incur Turnover Charges.

9.3 Please note that if you become eligible to incur Turnover Charges, we will contact you before any charges are paid.

9.4 Wagering operators in Australia are required to pay a fee based on ˜turnover defined as aggregate of back bets) to Racing NSW for the right to accept bets on its racing. From time to time, other Australian racing bodies may impose similar turnover based fees and, should they do so, we will communicate this to you in advance.

9.5 Who will pay the Turnover Charge?
9.5.1 This charge will only apply to customers who during a particular week (Monday to Sunday GMT) meet each of the below criteria:

have matched back bets on 1 or more markets on which Betfair is subject to a turnover fee from Racing NSW (turnover charge markets)
have matched back bets with an aggregate value of AUS $1,000 or greater on turnover charge markets; and
the total commission generated by the customer on turnover charge markets is less than 1.25% of the aggregate value of matched back bets placed by the customer on those markets.
9.5.2 Total commission generated is half of the commission paid plus half of implied commission, calculated by the formula = (commission paid + implied commission) / 2

Implied commission is 3% of player losses where players make an overall loss on a single market.

Turnover charge markets will be identified in the Market Information (located on every Betfair market either under the tab entitled "Rules" or under the ˜Rules’ or ‘i’ (information) button).

9.6 What is the Turnover Charge?
9.6.1 The turnover charge will be 3.0% of the aggregate value of matched back bets on turnover charge markets.

9.6.2 The charge will be calculated for the period from each Monday to Sunday (GMT), and will be payable on a retrospective basis. The charge will be debited from a customer’s wallet each Wednesday, alongside any applicable premium charge.

9.6.3 The charge will only be incurred for any week when a customer’s betting activity meets the criteria. Please note the charge will not be applicable to any lay bets.

US racing is fine, although the liquidity and overrounds are significantly challenged, especially in-play. I've been trading in-play in US racing for years.

Wonder why Australia is so heavily governed.. probably political more than anything I'd have thought?

Nice to know you've been successful with US. Defintely seems a bit nicer, but oppotunities still hard due to liquidity it seems on face value anyway

US yes

AUS my strategies just aren't good enough to beat the comission no matter what tweaks I try

I make about 60% of my money on pre-race Aus horses and dogs. I don't do any NSW horse tracks due to the turnover charge and I don't do any US.
Commission is a pita but once you accumulate some commission discount points, earned everywhere but applicable only to Aus markets, that comes down a bit.
