I had not used my Betfair account for over 10 years. I just needed to send in a photo of me holding some ID and update my details as I could not remember my password, my phone number and email address had changed. I had no problem adding £500 a month for 3 months to my account without any other checks being required.

Have you had a look whether or not they've done a soft credit check after you've deposited?

It's usually £500 net deposit over a rolling 30 day period. You would have no problem with that, as its not even allowing a £20 per day loss. Or put another way, if you were to not back a winner at the cheltenham festival, at £20 per race, you would be out of ammo with 3 races left still. It's ridiculous. From what I have seen when I have attended on course, or at my local shop, they seem to be benefitting a little because of these checks. Would be interesting to see if stats backed this up.

How can you tell if they have? I thought a soft check is just bancruptcy or CCj's which you can see for free on a Govt website

No, soft check is e.g. when you test if you would be accepted for a certain new credit card (without actually applying for it).

I can see those checks on my bank account in the "credit score" section, featuring info from TransUnion.
