Incredible to think Man Utd played their FA Cup 5th round tie vs Sheff Wed only 13 days after the Munich air crash!
8 of their players had been killed, but life carries on.
I suppose that generation had lived through WW2, so were able to deal with death and tragedy better than we can today

It's not generations it's football.
TT riders are doing 180mph past bunches of flowers that haven't wilted yet. There's been deaths where they red flag the race, they go an mop up, and then restart the race later the same day or the next day.
They operate on a "it's what they'd have wanted" principal.
Something like that does sound unimaginable in this day and ageLeTiss wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 3:36 pmIncredible to think Man Utd played their FA Cup 5th round tie vs Sheff Wed only 13 days after the Munich air crash!

There was that Chapecoense plane crash in recent years where basically their entire team perished on route to the biggest match in the club's history, their CL final or something
There's just something especially brutal about life getting interrupted the moment everything comes together and their biggest dreams become reality SMH
I suppose I'm talking about life in general here, Shaun.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 4:05 pmIt's not generations it's football.

There seems to be a burning desire, or even social media pressure to almost outdo the next person or club with regards to mourning events.
I sometimes think there's a competition to see who can do remembrance weekend the best......with flowers on the centre circle and a bugler playing the last post. That never used to happen.

Agreed. True sentiment often seems to take a firm backseat to optics these days.LeTiss wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 4:51 pmI suppose I'm talking about life in general here, Shaun.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 4:05 pmIt's not generations it's football.

Virtue signalling at its finest. Even Oasis were blatantly cashing in and using it to reinforce their football fan boy credentials.

I hate seeing virtue signalling everywhere and if I let it, it can really work me up. I often worry that actually it's just me turning into a grumpy old cynical bastard.ShaunWhite wrote: ↑Sun Jul 13, 2025 5:38 pmVirtue signalling at its finest.
