In turn how do I catch the possible green up that is greater than that / As above I see green all for 200-300% my entry but it just beeps and never matches.

I think what you are seeing here is the in-play delay at work, you are effectively placing a bet to green up at the current offered odds but by the time the in-play delay has been added those odds will have changed. Should still get matched if the odds are going in the right direction, might even get a better price but if they are reversing then you won't get matched.

All my trading is automated at the moment as I couldn't get the hang of trading the ladders manually - still something I want to come back to. One of my bots is set to fire a back bet around odds of 2 in-play and I'd say it only gets matched at the requested odds maybe half the time, sometimes no match but I've seen matches as high as odds of 3.

I think if you know where you want to exit then having a bet waiting at that level is maybe the best way to get matched, as by the time it gets there and you either click or automation fires then the price could already be gone. Obviously need some kind of back-up plan if that level isn't reached.

Hope my rambling helps but please note I'm very much just a beginner and not even on the same planet compared to Shaun and Kai - really appreciate all of their posts on here. Just felt I was able to contribute here.

Yeah, it's never fun being one step behind the market or chasing the price :|

I honestly consider using any hedge buttons a criminal offense, on a thin fast IP market like that? I main football but I'm a fan of this market as well, even if every tick had lots of volume like footy has I'd still never use it.

Just check out a few brief clips of someone like Carl Trader or others with similar execution, for me that's the correct way to manage positions. Manually on the ladder and by averaging your entries and exits, fully in control.

Averaging itself can be part of an edge, tames your greed and calms your fears. Smoothens your variance too. For smoother trading overall.

Hi All,

Thanks for the replies.

Yes I understand now. Because my main aim and effort is to trade pre off I never noticed this order delay. It makes sense.

When hovering over the green all button I had the betfair pics feed pinned to the centre of the screen. Obviously time skilled race traders, traders with tpd and bots are in front of me so I suppose I now understand I'm tapping an echo on the shoulder.

But this is good. I've learned something new.

I did look at a few carl traders vids as above advised. I think for now I'm going to return my efforts to pre off which I seem to have a grasp of the market mechanics and I can generally spot the ebb and flow direction 5 mins pre and can manage easily if it goes against me.

I got distracted forming my own opinion which led me down the in play route.

Enjoy your Sunday roasts !!
