Folks, apologies for the poor timing, York under two hours away and Bargain Hunt having just started but I have a question that will no doubt prove embarrassing for asking.
I'm branching out into laying a horse pre-off and backing it in play. I've had to use the Betfair cash out button, which has proved a touch unreliable at times, as when I've laid on BA and placed my back trade, when the trade gets taken, if I'm not quick, my green diminishes rapidly as the horse goes further back and has at times gone to zero profit except on the original horse which is showing a green. That would only work if the horse grew the wings of Pegasus and sliced through the field but I'm sure that BA has something somewhere where my in play profit gets locked in, either via a number of ticks or a stated profit. I'm sure I remember a video from some years ago but can't find it.
Is anyone able to assist with my quandary, please?
Embarrassing in play trading question.

Bargain Hunt is now over. A firm victory for the Reds today and golden gavels awarded!
Your problem with cashing out in-play is the Betfair one second delay. You hit the cashout button but by the time the trade hits the market the prices might be long gone, and you end up chasing the price down. The best way to avoid this is to put up your back position in advance. So if you're laying at 10.0, you might set up a back offer at 20.0 and hope the price matches in-play. On Bet Angel you can place an 'offset' trade which will automatically place a reverse trade at a set number of ticks, value, or % away from the entry price.

Aha! Yes, offsetting, I remember it well, many thanks, much appreciated. As for BH, a right old mash up, why you'd pay that much for three lumps of glass is beyond me. Still, we all live and learn. Many thanks again.jamesedwards wrote: ↑Thu Aug 21, 2025 1:29 pmBargain Hunt is now over. A firm victory for the Reds today and golden gavels awarded!
